READING, PA (September 23, 2023) --
Maryanna Garcia scored the lone goal of the game as the Monarchs take down the Lions 1-0
King's College (3-3-1) was able to fend off a couple early shots from Albright College (3-4-1), and score on their second shot of the game off the foot of Garcia. Garcia notched her goal in the 14
th minute of the game, placing the ball perfectly into the high right corner of the goal. King's pressured the Lions net the entire first half, seeing Garcia,
Leah Sankey, and
Gabriella Porchetta take shots on goal. Albright goalkeeper McKenna Levan proved to be on top of her game in the Lions net, recording four saves across the half.
The second half of action saw both teams trade shots. King's had three shot attempts, the first off the foot of Garcia who missed just left, and
Brooke Finlay followed up missing high.
Liz Porto put a ball on frame, but her shot was stopped by Levan. Albright forwards Emilly Sellers and Maggie Williams both missed left of the goal on their shot attempts.
With neither team able to find the back of the net in the final half of the game, the Monarchs found themselves victorious taking down the Lions 1-0.
The Monarchs attempted eight shots during the game, placing six of them on goal. Garcia led the team with three shots, followed by Sankey with two. Finlay, Porchetta, and Porto each had one shot attempt.
Aspen Wallin earned her second consecutive shutout and third overall on the year for King's.
Caroline Parker, Mackenzie Sowers, Audrey Solt, Williams, and Sellers each recorded one shot for the Lions. Levan had five saves for Albright.
The Monarchs will travel to Williamsport to face Lycoming College Wednesday, September 27, and then return to McCarthy Stadium for their first MAC-Freedom game of the year Saturday, September 30, against Arcadia University.
