King's Falls to Rutgers-Camden in Season Opener

CAMDEN, NJ (September 2, 2023) -- The King's College women's soccer team showed a lot of talent in their 3-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday.

King's (0-1-0) fell behind early to Rutgers-Camden (2-0-0), but persevered and showed that they weren't going down without a fight. Going into the second half down 2-0, King's came out of the gates and found a rhythm early in the half. Maryanna Garcia got things started for the Monarchs as she took a shot on goal, missing just high. Brooke Finlay followed in Garcia's steps and took a shot of her own less then a minute later, but Camden-Rutgers goalkeeper Michaela Graham made a last second save to prevent the goal.

In the 59th and 63rd minutes King's had corner kick attempts that lead to goal scoring opportunities, however the great attempts didn't lead to a goal. In the final minutes of the match Dasha Atkins fired on net and just missed. Atkins placed a second shot on net and was soon followed up by Mikaela Majcher, but Graham was able to make two saves. The Scarlet Raptors were able to sneak one final goal just past Aspen Wallin as well in the final 10 minutes to close out the match and take the 3-0 victory over the Monarchs.

King's recorded six of their seven shots in the second half, out shooting the Scarlet Raptors six to four. Atkins recorded two shots for the Monarchs, and Finlay, Majcher, Garcia, Angelina Vargas, and Kailey McGinley, each recorded a shot as well. Wallin recorded three saves in goal for the Monarchs.

Looking ahead, the Monarchs will take on Drew University on the road at 1:00 p.m. September, 3 in Madison, NJ.
