WLIKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2023) -- The fiery King's College field hockey team fought through the entire 60-minute contest before falling, 7-1, at McCarthy Stadium on Thursday night to Marywood University. King's will head into the weekend, 0-8, while the Pacers improve to 4-2.

The Pacers took control early, finding the cage in the eighth minute after a persistent attack to start. A second goal from Marywood (4-2) in the 23
rd minute saw the visitors go up, 2-0, into the break. After Marywood tallied their third goal of the game in the 33
rd minute, the King's (0-8) offense came alive and shifted into the attack, getting four penalty corners and three shots in the final minutes of the third while trailing, 3-0.

Despite a few more Pacer scores in the fourth, King's had several solid opportunities on the cage before finally breaking through the Marywood defense as
Hannah Chocallo rocketed a ball in front of the cage for
Melanie Tlatenchi to knock in the goal off a beautiful play from a penalty corner to see the Monarchs trail, 6-1, with 3:08 to play.

One more goal was scored by the visitors despite some great plays by
Grace Venis in goal as the Monarchs fell, 7-1, at McCarthy Stadium on a crisp fall evening.

Tlatenchi collected her points in the game off her lone shot, while
Emma Clark led the offense with two shots.

Jessie Smalley,
Katey Shoemaker, and Chocallo all got off a shot each as well in the loss, while
Grace Venis posted a new career-best nine saves in the cage.

Dariane Jones led Marywood with a hat trick of three goals off five shots, while Cydney Lahr totaled tow goals and an assist with a team-leading eight shots with six on target. Leah Ewing collected the win in goal making two saves in her effort.

As a team, the Monarchs battled back in the second half to come within 12-6 in the shot column for the stretch and coming up with eight second-half penalty corners.

King's returns to McCarthy Stadium to continue their home stand, hosting Neumann University in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon. Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
