Harry Nets First Career Goal in Setback to Drew

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 27, 2023) -- Megan Harry netted her first career goal in the 14th minute, but the Monarchs efforts came up short as the King's College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Drew University on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss in the non-conference match up, the Monarchs fall to 1-9 overall, while the Rangers improve to 4-5.

It was an evenly contested opening quarter, but King's (1-9) would get the first solid opportunity of the game off a penalty corner in the 12th minute. Two more penalty corner opportunities came up shy of a goal before Hannah Chocallo sent a ball into the circle that would tip off Melanie Tlatenchi and off the stick of Harry into the goal to put the Monarchs up, 1-0, at the end of the first. King's maintained their edge in the shot column, out shooting the Rangers 3-2 in the quarter, but Drew (4-5) found the back of the cage with 1:06 to play in the half to knot the score, 1-1.

The game remained in the midfield for much of the third quarter, and it seemed the contest was destined for an overtime period. Drew broke through in the 53rd minute off a penalty corner opportunity, and the Monarchs late efforts came up short in the 2-1 setback to Drew on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.

Harry netted her goal on her lone shot of the game, while Emma Clark and Ashley Thalassinos totaled a team-high two shots each. Chocallo also posted two shots while adding her assists and a defensive save to help lead King's. In the cage, Grace Venis made three saves in the complete-game effort.

Tyler Olivio led Drew with a goal on a team-high three shots, while Alexa Thomas also scored on two shots. Olyvia Jackson collected the win while making two saves in goal for the Rangers.

The Monarchs were slightly edged in the shot column, 10-8, by the Rangers, while the penalty corner column was tied at 6-6 for the game.

King's is set to host Manhattanville in their fourth straight home game on Saturday afternoon. The non-conference contest is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium. The Monarchs will also honor celebrate senior day prior to the contest and participate in the fall Mental Health Awareness weekend.
