Finlay and Sankey Lead Monarchs to Victory Over Knights

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 30, 2023) --Two first half goals scored by Brooke Finlay and Leah Sankey lift King's College past Arcadia University 2-0.

Finlay didn't waste any time putting the Monarchs (4-4-1, 1-0-0) up early against Arcadia (5-6-0, 0-1-0) Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium. The first-year striker found the back of the net in the 10th minute after receiving a pass from Maryanna Garcia. The early goal helped the Monarchs take flight, as they dominated possession of the game and scored a second goal off the foot of  Sankey in the 26th minute.

In the second half of the game both teams got a little physical and drew several fouls and players on both sides earned yellow cards. The Knights nearly scored after a ball made it past goalkeeper Aspen Wallin, but Hailey Shillabeer made the diving save behind her to keep the Monarchs' two-goal lead alive.

As the final whistle blew at McCarthy Stadium the Monarchs were handed their fourth win of the season and their first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom win of the season.
Finlay and Sankey both scored for the Monarchs while Garcia picked up an assist. The Monarchs were outshot by Arcadia 12-9 on the night; however, the Monarchs placed six balls on frame while Arcadia only placed five. Aspen Wallin recorded four saves on the night, recording her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Angela Rosenberger recorded three shots for the Knights, while Abby Stephens, and Madi Mortelliti followed behind with two. Abigail Fuchs made four saves for Arcadia.

Next time out the Monarchs will play host to Stockton University at McCarthy Stadium Wednesday, October 4 at 4 p.m.
