Castiello's Career-High, Walsh's Double-Double Lift Men's Hoops over Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (January 17, 2024) -- Carmine Castiello poured in a new-career high of 33 points, while Eamonn Walsh recorded a double-double to help lift the King's College men's basketball team to a big Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) win, 86-70, over Delaware Valley in James Work Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Monarchs snap a three-game streak and improve to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the MAC Freedom, while the Aggies fall to 7-9 with a 1-3 conference mark.

The host Delaware Valley (7-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) came out of the gates firing, scoring the first eight points of the game, before a dunk from Garrett Burys sparked a 10-0 run by King's (10-6, 2-3 MAC Freedom) to give the Monarchs their first lead of the game with 14:16 to go. The contest was evenly matched over the next 8:50 of action before a three from Castiello started a 20-3 run to end the half with the Monarchs on top, 48-32, heading into the locker room.

It was all King's the remainder of the game, as the visitors led by as much as 25 points on a free throw from Chris Patton with 15:57 left in the match up, on their way to the 86-70 MAC Freedom road win on Wednesday evening.

Castiello totaled his new career-high of 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe, with three rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 34 minutes of action. Walsh added his double-double of 22 points on a 6-for-10 shooting effort with 10 boards, three steals, and two assists. Patton tallied nine points with seven caroms, a team-high four steals, and a helper, while Patrick Bennie came off the bench to add eight points and five rebounds.

Delaware Valley saw four finish in double figures, led by Rasheem Dearry with 13 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Joshua Pierre added 11 points and two steals.

The Monarchs shot the ball well in the win, connecting for 49.1% of their attempts and 31.6% from three, while the defense limited Delaware Valley to a 34.3% shooting night and 33.3% from beyond the arc. King's had the edge in the rebounding margin, 43-38, over the Aggies, while also forcing 16 Delaware Valley miscues. Additionally, the Monarchs dominated the stat sheet in points off turnovers (19-10), second-chance points (4-1), points in the paint (40-20), and fast break points (16-13).

King's looks to carry this momentum into a big MAC Freedom test on the road at Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in the Anderson Center.
