WILKES-BARRE (October 1, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Lycoming College Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium, moving the Monarchs to 1-5-4 and the Warriors to 8-1-2. Six yellow cards were issued through the 90 minutes of play.
Lycoming's junior forward Abigail Umhoefer put the Warriors ahead early with a goal off an assist from junior midfielder Aubrey Williamson four minutes into the first half. A competitive first 45 minutes resulted in several offensive opportunities alongside a combined 13 fouls from both teams. A yellow card was issued to each respective team, the first to Lycoming's Natalie Bates in minute 37 and the second to King's senior defender
Cady McKean in minute 43. King's recorded four shots through the remainder of the half but were unable to answer back to the Warriors' early goal, sending the teams to halftime with a 1-0 score. Â Â
In the second half, after a yellow card was issued to Lycoming's Claudia Green in the 60
th minute, Ella Magee took a shot on goal, King's first-year defender
Karissa Coleman was charged with a handball offense,
Ashlyn Crawford was issued a yellow card and the Warriors were awarded a penalty kick that eventually extended their lead to 2-0. Two more yellow cards were issued later with Lycoming's Abigail Umhoefer in minute 77 and King's
Victoria Hanna in minute 78. Time expired and the 2-0 score stood.
The Monarchs are back in action this Saturday, October 5 as they travel to Glenside, PA to take on the Knights of Arcadia in the first game of conference play. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
