Women's Soccer Honors Seniors in Setback to FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 26, 2024) -- On Saturday afternoon, the King's College women's soccer team honored its seniors before falling in a 3-0 setback to FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. With the loss at McCarthy Stadium, the Monarchs drop to 3-8-5 overall and 2-2-1 in the MAC Freedom, while the Devils improved to 8-9-1 and 1-3-1 in the conference.

It was a physical game from the get-go, with the Devils getting a yellow card 17:06 into the game. King's (3-8-5, 2-2-1 MAC Freedom) maintained possession well, but after both teams got a pair of shots off the teams entered the halftime locker room tied, 0-0.

King's got an early opportunity on a corner kick in the 48th minute, but it was FDU-Florham (8-9-1, 1-3-1 MAC Freedom) to find the back of the net first in the 48th minute. The Monarchs continued to battle, but another score in the top of the left corner of the net by FDU-Florham pushed the deficit to 2-0 in the 64th minute.

The Monarchs did not go away quietly, with Raina Adelman, Jessica Juarez, Maya Parker, and Anya Chervak getting good shots off, but a costly hand ball in the box allowed the Devils to tack on a penalty kick goal and post the 3-0 win over King's on Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

Parker and Juarez led the offense with two shots each, while Adelman, Chervak, Meagn Thompson all added their own attempts.

Ashley Dietrich led the Devils with a goal and two assists off a team-high two shots, while Ava Gianni made five saves in the win.

King's had the 7-5 edge in shots and 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Monarchs also had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3, in the contest.

The Monarchs will finish the regular season with a two-game road stint, beginning on Wednesday at Stevens. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the MAC Freedom match.
