Field Hockey Drops Final Road Game at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 30, 2024) -- In their final road test of the 2024 season, the King's College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision at Delaware Valley University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. With the setback on Wednesday afternoon, the Monarchs drop to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in the conference, while the Aggies improve to 8-11 with a 3-3 MAC Freedom mark.

The first half was evenly matched between the two teams as the shot totals were knotted at 8-8, but King's (4-14, 0-6 MAC Freedom) had a 4-2 edge in penalty corners through the first 30 minutes of action. After allowing an Aggies goal 1:43 into the contest, the Monarch defense settled in but could not match the goal in the opening quarter.

The second was a slow start before Delaware Valley (8-11, 3-3 MAC Freedom) puts the first shot up in the frame 6:42 in. The foes traded spurts, but the second quarter remained scoreless as King's trailed, 2-0, heading into the break.

Despite an attacking spurt in the 36th minute, the Aggies maintained much of the possession in the third. The King's defense remained steady in the frame, though, as Emily Bollinger made a pair of saves.

The host Aggies pushed through again, scoring the insurance goal in the 49th minute on a penalty stroke. The Monarchs had some great chances down the stretch, including a stretch of two shots and a penalty corner with 7:50 to play and then again in the final six ticks, but King's came up shy in the 2-0 setback in the MAC Freedom match on Wednesday afternoon.

The King's offense was led by Emma Clark with three shots, all on goal, and Davina Krappa with her own three attempts. Bollinger finished with seven saves in the cage.

Paige Sammons scored on a game-high eight shots, while Ashley Birmingham delivered her score on five shots. Alyssa Rudd picked up the win in the cage with five saves.

The Monarchs finished the game in a slight 20-12 deficit in shots and a 10-8 margin in penalty corners.

King's will wrap up the 2024 regular season on their home turf at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday evening. They are set to host Stevens in the MAC Freedom contest at 6:00 p.m.
