Women’s Soccer Drops Road Contest with Marywood 2-0

SCRANTON, PA (October 9, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team falls to 2-6-4 after losing 2-0 to Marywood on Wednesday night at Pacers Field. Marywood now moves to 8-3-1 on the year.

After a relatively slow and steady first half for both teams, a yellow card was issued to Marywood's Josephine Source in minute 34. Shortly after, in minute 42, Source got the ball to Carly Walters who was able to put it past King's first-year goalkeeper Courtney Monard. This was Monard's first career start. Walters' late goal to close out the first half sent the teams into halftime with the Pacers leading 1-0.

In the second half, first-year midfielder Julia Capicchioni received a yellow card in the 71st minute. Five minutes later, following a corner kick attempt for Marywood, Faith Meals also received a yellow card. Marywood's Maura Kirkpatrick scored the Pacers' second goal of the night off an assist by Riley Mulherin to extend the lead to 2-0

Through 90 minutes, King's had three corner kicks that all came in the first half. The Monarchs tallied six shots with four on goal and five saves for Monard. The 2-0 score stood as time expired.

King's is back in action this Saturday, October 12 as they host Delaware Valley at McCarthy Stadium at 4 p.m.
