WYOMISSING, PA (November 15, 2024) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team scored one goal in each period to push past the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University 3-1 and earn their first win of the season at Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex on Friday night. With the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) win, the Monarchs move to 1-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the MAC, while the Golden Wolves fall to 2-3-0 with a 1-2-0 conference mark.
King's began the game with a two minute team penalty at the fault of a lineup-roster violation.
Kent Lee got the Monarchs on the board at 8:55 with assists from
Ethan Hersant and Michael Harrel Jr. Hersant was later penalized for hooking at 11:23 and Alvernia's Easton Inglis received a penalty for elbowing at 19:32 to close out the period.
Hersant wasted no time in the second period as he scored 22 seconds in with assists from
Teodor Benno Vaage and Lee. Four penalties came in the second period as
Jayden Baldinelli was charged with kneeing at 7:47, Alvernia's Nolan Barrett for interference at 10:04, Hersant with his second hooking penalty of the game at 12:30 and
Cristo Walker for hooking at 13:02. The 2-0 score in favor of kinds stood going into the second intermission.
Alvernia began the third period with Sawyer Senio and Nolan Barrett in the penalty box as Senio was called for cross checking at 2:05 and Barrett for interference at 5:48. Barrett scored at 13:46 with assists from Riley Egan and Brock Mueller to cut the Monarchs lead to one, but
Patrick Nowak answered back five minutes later at 18:16 with assists from Hersant and goaltender
Ben Williams to make it 3-1.
Benno Vaage concluded the night with three out of 11 total team blocks and Williams tallied 49 saves with 22 coming in the second period alone.
King's returns to Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex tomorrow, November 16 for a rematch against the Golden Wolves. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
