PITTSTON, PA (November 22, 2024) – The King's College men's ice hockey team fell 6-5 to the Knights of Neumann University Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), the Monarchs move to 1-6-0, 1-5-0 as the Knights improve to 3-0-2 in both overall season and conference play.
Kent Lee scored in the last minute of regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Neumann's Max Donohue began the first period in the penalty box after being called for interference at 5:07.
Teodor Benno Vaage got the Monarchs going with a goal off assists from Lee and
Ethan Hersant at 6:09, but the Knights responded quick with a goal less than 30 seconds later as PJ Demitrio and Dexton Mozell both assisted in Sonny DiNubile's early, game-tying goal. Matt Dimaline was penalized at 11:05 for slashing and
Shota Kaneko was ejected from the game at 16:16 for contact to the head. Hersant scored an unassisted goal at 16:54 to put the Monarchs ahead 2-1, but not for long as Donohue scored at 17:16 with an assist from Zack Smith to tie the game once again. Dimaline recorded his second slashing penalty at 19:39 to close out the period and send the teams into intermission tied 2-2.
The second period was quieter as the teams combined for two goals and only two penalties. Judd Katz received a contact to the head penalty at 4:44 and
Cristo Walker was charged with cross checking at 5:27. Hersant and
Johnny Malandruccolo assisted in
Thomas Soucy's second-career goal coming at 5:02 to take the 3-2 lead. Tyler Inlow scored to put the knights right back in it at 16:35 with assists from Tyler Kennedy and Lucas Culhane. The score was tied 3-3 going into the third period.
Dexton Mozell gave the Knights the lead 43 seconds into the period with an assist from Camero Hatziioannou.
Patrick Nowak answered back this time with a goal at 1:54 with assists from
Erik Borshchevsky and Malandruccolo to tie it 4-4. Donohue was sent to the box at 4:22 with a slashing penalty, and TJ Ezzrd joined him at 4:22. The Knights made it 5-4 at 9:54 with a goal from Lucas Culhane off assists from Kennedy and DiNubile. Four penalties game in the last ten minutes of regulation as Croucher was called for high sticking at 11:50,
Teodor Benno Vaage for roughing at 12:05, and Demitrio received two simultaneous penalties, one for tripping and one for hooking at 18:55.
With assists from Hersant and Malandruccolo,
Kent Lee scored in the final minute of play to tie the game and send it to overtime. Culhane sealed the deal for the Knights 3:02 into overtime, making the final score 6-5
Senior goaltender
Matt Bidini posted 38 saves with 18 in just the first period.
Ethan Hersant went 24-19 in faceoffs and led the team in blocks with two.
The Monarchs face the Knights again tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Revolution Ice Centre.
