Neumann Holds off King’s for 4-2 Win

PITTSTON, PA (November 23, 2024) – The King's College men's ice hockey team fell 4-2 to the Knights of Neumann University Saturday night at Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), the Monarchs fall to 1-6-0, 1-5-0 as the Knights improve to 4-0-2 in both overall season and conference play.

The Knights struck first as Dustin Patterson scored a power play goal at 5:38 after Cameron Bauer was penalized for slashing at 3:45. Ethan Hersant answered back for the Monarchs, scoring an unassisted goal at 16:51to tie the game 1-1 going into the first intermission.

Lucas Culhane extended the Knights' lead to 2-1 at 2:55 with assists from Tyler Ray and Luke Croucher. Zack Smith was called for interference at 7:01 and Cameron Hatziioannou was called for roughing and Thomas Soucy for slashing at 8:59. Denys Askhypenko scored the 2-2 equalizing goal at 9:16 with assists from Hersant and Zane Burleigh. Hatziioannou received an additional tripping penalty at 17:20. The 2-2 score stood going into the second intermission.

22 seconds into the third period of play, the puck ricocheted off of first-year goaltender Ben Williams' back and into the net. The goal was credited to Patterson with assists from Croucher and Dexton Mozell. Two penalties were issued at 5:50 as Jackson Grozelle was called for cross checking and Patterson for roughing. Patterson was back in the box at 14:11 for his second-straight penalty, this time for holding. The Knights sealed the win with a goal from Smith at 16:25 with an assist from Ray. Matt Dimaline was penalized for roughing at 19:44 to close out the game with a 4-2 win.

Williams concluded the night with 31 total saves in goal. Teodor Benno Vaage and Matt Metsa each tallied two blocks and Ethan Hersant went 15-10 in faceoffs.

The Monarchs are back in action next weekend, Nov. 29-30, as they are set to travel to Keene, New Hampshire to participate in the Terry Moran Invitational Tournament. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. on Friday.
