PITTSTON, PA (November 9, 2024) -- On Saturday afternoon, the King's College men's ice hockey dropped a 7-1 decision to the visiting Wilkes University in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match up at the Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs now drop to 0-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the MAC, while the Colonels improved to 2-1-0 with a 2-0-0 conference mark.

It was an evenly-contested first period despite a 12-6 edge in shots by the Colonels for the period, but neither team found the back of the net as the game remained scoreless, 0-0, at the first intermission.

Wilkes (2-1-0, 2-0-0 MAC) came out of the break firing off nine shots as
Ben Williams made eight saves and
Jackson Grozelle blocked a shot in the stretch. King's (0-3-0, 0-2-0 MAC) returned the attack, posting 10 shots in a 3:44 minute span. The Colonels broke through and got the scoring started, tallying four goals over 4:32 of action. The Monarchs picked up their intensity and broke through as
Kent Lee and
Thomas Soucy worked the puck up the ice to the stick of
Shota Kaneko for the power-play goal with 3:34 left in the period. The scoring slowed as the game entered the final intermission with King's trailing, 4-1.

The third period went to the Colonels as the visitors scored three in the frame as the Monarchs fell, 7-1, in the Saturday afternoon contest at the Revolution Ice Centre.

Kaneko scored off a pair of shots, while
Mauro D'Alessandro led the team with four shots. Both
Ethan Hersant and
Alexander Ray won seven face offs, while
Jackson Grozelle blocked two shots. Williams made 38 saves in his collegiate debut in the first 55:47 of action.

Joe Johnson led the Colonels with a goal and two assists, while Cam Lowe had a team-leading six shots. Carter Jordan had a team-best 14 face off wins, while both Mason Vonk and Judson McGrath blocked two shots each. Duncan Rolleman went the distance in net, making 25 saves.

The Monarchs will head out for their first road contests in 2024-25 next weekend as they visit Alvernia University for their MAC series. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Alvernia's Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex.
