WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 29, 2024) -- The King's College men's volleyball team defeated Penn State Schuylkill (0-4) 3-0 on Thursday evening. It was a full team effort as the Monarchs (14-3) saw multiple members put up numbers and earning a new program record of 24 aces in a three set match in McGrane Gymnasium.
King's dominated the first set with multiple aces by
Ben Maskiell (So.) and
Gavin Gilhool (Jr.). The Monarchs went on to win 25-3.
The second set was like the first as King's maintained their momentum. The Monarchs witnessed several tallies by
Logan Aikens (Fy.) and
Robert Oppedisano (Sr.). King's remained victorious 25-5.
In the third and final set of the night, the Monarchs continued to take control.
Andrew Bafuma (Jr.),
Rich Alvarez (Sr.), and
Mike Bizzoco (Sr.) paced the squad to a 25-5 win.
King's ended with 28 kills, 24 assists, 21 aces, 23 digs, and a hitting percentage of .522. Aikens led the team with six kills with Alvarez and Oppedisano following with five. Aiden Kraus (Jr.) dished out 18 helpers with five aces and four digs. Gilhool had a career-high of seven aces.
Derek Perkins (Fy.) fueled the defensive end with seven digs.
Penn State Schuylkill had three kills, two assists, 14 digs, and a hitting percentage of -.356.
The Monarchs will be back in action after Spring Break to take on Misericordia for a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup on Wednesday, March 13
th at 7 p.m. The team will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, March 16
th against Stevenson and Regis with a scheduled time beginning at 1 p.m.
