Men's Ice Hockey Faces 2-7 Setback Against Lebanon Valley on Senior Day

PITTSTON, PA (Feb. 9, 2024) - - King's College men's ice hockey faced a 7-2 setback in its Senior Day match against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Lebanon Valley College. Brendan Krawczyk and Erik Borschevsky both scored for the Monarchs this afternoon. King's is now 8-14-0 overall, 7-10-0 in UCHC play and 4-3-0 in MAC play.

Both teams hit the ice with aggression in the start of the game looking to score the first goal. The Flying Dutchmen found the back of the net first at the 4:13 minute mark. King's attempted to earn an equalizer in the minutes after, but were unable to before Lebanon Valley scored its second goal just under five minutes later. The Monarchs played strong defense for the remainder of the period to hold the Flying Dutchmen to just a 2-0 lead going into the second period.

King's continued to play tough defense for the first half of the second period, holding off the Flying Dutchmen from scoring for the first 12 minutes of play. Lebanon Valley scored its third goal exactly twelve-and-a-half minutes in, then scored its fourth less than two minutes later while in power play to give the Flying Dutchmen a 4-0 lead. They scored once more before King's netted its first of the evening with just over two minutes left in the second period when Krawczyk scored off assists from Jackson Grozelle and Jayden Baldinelli. Lebanon Valley continued to lead into the last period with a score of 5-1 over the Monarchs.

Just under one minute into the third period, the Flying Dutchmen scored another goal. King's held off Lebanon Valley for nearly 13 more minutes before scoring another goal of its own. Borschevsky found the back of the net at the 13:03 mark thanks to assists from Denys Arkhypenko and Alexander Ray. Unfortunately the Flying Dutchmen responded with their final goal of the game with less than six minutes to play. Lebanon Valley ultimately defeated King's 7-2.

Matt Bidni had 17 saves in goal in addition to eight from Nick Konkel for a total of 25. Borschevsky also led King's with two blocks. Ethan Hersant tallied 11 face off wins to lead the Monarchs, while Ray followed close behind with 10.

The Monarchs take the ice again tomorrow evening for the second game of this weekend's UCHC and MAC series at 6pm back at Revolution Ice Centre. This game is also the Monarchs' Ukranian Soldiers & Protez Foundation Benefit Game.
