Men's Volleyball Gains First Road Win

FRANKLIN, MA (February 9, 2024) -- The King's College men's volleyball team had their first road test of the season against the Bulldogs of Dean College. The Monarchs (7-0) defeated the Bulldogs (1-5) 3-0 to extend their win streak to seven on Friday evening.
 
King's started off with an 11-5 start in the opening set that included kills by Logan Dougherty (Fy.), Nick Greenawalt (Sr.), Gavin Gilhool (Jr.), and Greg Bousquet (So.). Dean would call a timeout, but that was not stopping the Monarchs as they took another 5-3 run. The score was 22-10 when the Bulldogs made one last stand with a 4-1 jolt. Though King's prevailed and took the first set 25-14.
 
The second set of the evening was much like the first with the Monarchs having a 10-1 lead. After a timeout by Dean they got back on the board after a kill by Aaron Foneca. Yet King's had had an answer every step of the way and controlled much of the matchup. The Monarchs remained victorious 25-8.  
 
The final set in Pieri Gymnasium was a battle as there were three ties to start it off. The score was 3-3 when King's made a six-point cushion that comprised tallies by Bousquet, Dougherty, Rich Alvarez (Jr.). Every time the Bulldogs earned a point, the Monarchs just responded back with more power. King's celebrated a 25-10 win.
 
The Monarchs finished the night with 32 kills, 31 assists, six blocks, 29 digs, and a hitting percentage of .474. Bousquet had a team high of nine kills with 10 points, two blocks, and a hitting percentage of .421. Dougherty followed with six kills and four digs. Ben Maskiell (So.) dished out 22 helpers with two aces. On the defensive end, Mike Bizzoco (Sr.) brushed off eight digs and Gilhool had three blocks.
 
The Bulldogs ended with 17 kills, 15 assists, 19 digs, and a hitting percentage of -.117. Arthur Felicio had six kills and Hunter Armitage produced 10 assists. Luis Castillo helped on defense with 10 digs.
 
King's are back in action on Saturday, February 10th with a double header against Fisher College. The scheduled time for the matches are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The squad will remain on the road to take on Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Widener at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th.
