Women's Lacrosse Fall to Alvernia

READING, PA (March 16th, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team were defeated by Golden Wolves of Alvernia (3-5) on Saturday afternoon. The score was 18-1 at Avernia University Turf Field, making the Monarchs now 1-5.
 
Alvernia started the contest with a goal at 14:36 by Meagan Moky. From then on, the Golden Wolves controlled the contest and scored five straight goals with five minutes left of play. King's were able to hold on defensively to create some offensive momentum. Goaltender Sidney Bush (Sr.) made a nice save to help the Monarchs get back on offense. Though their hosts were able to score two more goals to make it 8-0 heading into the second quarter.
 
The second quarter was much like the first and Alvernia continued to edge their opponent by scoring five goals in the first eight minutes. The Monarchs were able to gain a draw control win by Ashley Dias (Jr.) and drew a green card to have a player-up, but their the Golden Wolves continued to pester them. Alvernia found the back of the net once more to make it 14-0 heading into halftime.
 
King's started off strong to start the second half as Dias received another draw control win. The Golden Wolves added another tally at 11:39, but two-minutes later the Monarchs got on the board after an unassisted goal by Maria Schneider (So.). King's held Alvernia scoreless for seven straight minutes, causing several turnovers against their adversaries. The Monarchs were down 16-1 at the end of the third.
 
The fourth and final quarter was much like the third. King's buckled down defensively, but Alvernia was able to find the back of the net two last times. At the final buzzer, the Monarchs lost 18-1.
 
King's finished with seven shots, three shots on goal, 11 ground balls, caused eight turnovers, and had seven draw control wins. Schneider had one goal, two ground balls, and caused one turnover. Harley Sabol (Jr.) and Rylee O'Donnell (Fy.) both had two caused turnovers each. Bush had 13 saves in net as the starting goaltender.
 
Alvernia ended with 37 shots, 31 shots on goal, 20 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers, and had 15 draw control wins. Olivia McCambly earned five goals and one assist. Moky had three goals, two assists, four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw control wins. Hannah Wolfe had two saves on the day  as goaltender.
 
The Monarchs are back at home on Wednesday, March 20th at 7 p.m. to take on Lycoming. The squad will celebrate their seniors on Saturday, March 23rd at 1 p.m. and will host Manhattanville.
