Burke Leads Monarchs in Setback Against Lycoming

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 20, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team fell 18-8 to the Warriors of Lycoming on Wednesday night. The Monarchs are now 1-6 overall, and the Warriors move to 4-1 on the season.
 
Lycoming netted two goals in the first two minutes of play in McCarthy Stadium. Though King's did not allow their visitors to score for five straight minutes as the defense forced several turnovers, but the Warriors found the back of the net once again at 7:29 by Jess Shaver. The Monarchs wasted no time and Ashley Dias (Jr.) scored an unassisted goal at 6:45. Lycoming was not going to make it easy and scored two more goals with three minutes left of play in the first quarter. King's gained control and witnessed Chloe Burke (Jr.) add her own tally at 2:38.
 
The Monarchs started the second quarter strong with a draw control win by Burke. Though the Warriors maintained their momentum and netted two goals in the first five minutes. That was not going to stop King's as Burke found Maria Schneider (So.) to add another tally for the Monarchs at 9:52. The teams went back-and -forth trading goals as time was dwindling down. Heading into halftime, King's were down 9-5.
 
Lycoming controlled the third quarter scoring four straight goals to give them a 13-5 cushion.
 
In the final quarter, Burke netted back-to-back goals to help put the Monarchs back on the board. The Warriors answered right back with their own two tallies, but Burke did not go quiet and scored her fourth goal of the game at 5:36. Lycoming went on to find the back of the net three more times before the final buzzer. King's lost 18-8.
 
The Monarchs ended with 31 shots, 33 ground balls, six caused turnovers, and 18 draw control wins. Burke led the squad with six points on four goals and two assists while collecting nine ground balls and having seven draw control wins. Schneider followed with three goals, five ground balls, and six draw control wins. Dias added four ground balls and five draw control wins of her own. Sidney Bush (Sr.) had eight saves in net.
 
The Warriors finished with 30 shots, 17 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and 11 draw control wins. Katie Maguire fueled the offense with five goals, five ground balls, and eight draw control wins. Riley Block had five goals on 10 shots. Alexa Baldwin dished out five helpers for the team.
 
King's will be back in McCarthy Stadium to celebrate their seniors and take on Manhattanville on Saturday, March 23rd at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will begin before the contest. The squad will be back on the road to battle Wilson at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26th before heading into Easter break.
