WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 23, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team celebrated their four seniors prior to their non-conference contest against Manhattanville (2-4). The Monarchs (1-7) lost to the Valiants 12-5 in McCarthy Stadium on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Though Manhattanville won the opening draw control, King's capitalized on a turnover and
Ashley Dias (Jr.) netted the first goal of the afternoon at 13:14. The Valiants came back with their own goal by Colleen MacNeil at 12:36. Manhattanville went on to score the next two points and were up 3-1 with 8:53 left of the first quarter. The Monarchs were a player-up after a Valiant yellow card and
Sarah Schultz (So.) found her sister
Emilee Schultz (So.) for a goal at 5:08. King's were down 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.

To start the second quarter
Maria Schneider (So.) won the draw control. Manhattanville gained a free position shot and scored with a player down at 8:37 by Kaci Pierce. The Valiants controlled the rest of the first half and scored two more goals to put them up four. Heading into halftime the score was 6-2.

Manhattanville had all the momentum to start the third quarter and scored at 14:20. It went back-and-forth for seven-minutes between both opponents, but the Valiants went on to tally three straight goals with 2:45 left on the clock. Â The Monarchs came roaring back and
Kyleigh Dunworth (Jr.) found the back of the net at 0:21. King's were down 10-3 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth and final quarter,
Olivia Benner (Sr.) netted a goal at 13:28 thanks to an assist by Dias. The Monarchs added another tally at 11:50 with a player-up by Schneider. The visitors responded back with two goals by MacNeil and Pietra Cabral. The quarter remained scoreless from then on and King's lost 12-5 at the final buzzer.

The Monarchs finished with nine shots, 25 ground balls, and went 13-19 in clears. The squad witnessed five members gain goals for the team which included Benner, Dunworth, Dias, Schneider, and
Emilee Schultz. Dias added six ground balls, an assist, and four draw control wins to the stat sheet.
Sidney Bush had a whopping 16 saves as goalkeeper.

Manhattanville ended with 34 shots, 28 ground balls, and went 4-8 in free-position shots. MacNeil led the team with five goals, 10 ground balls, and nine draw control wins. Cabral followed with three goals, two assists, and two ground balls.

King's will travel to Wilson College on Tuesday, March 26
th at 4 p.m. The team will begin Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Thursday, March 28
th as they will host Delaware Valley at 5 p.m. before heading into Easter break.
