WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 28, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team opened their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom season slate against Delaware Valley (3-5, 1-0 MAC Freedom) on Thursday afternoon. The Monarchs (1-9, 0-1 MAC Freedom) fell to the Aggies 14-3 in McCarthy Stadium.

King's had a hot start with
Ashley Dias (Jr.) winning the opening draw control, but that did not phase their visitors as Delaware Valley scored a free position goal at 12:27 by Kyra McKeegan. The Monarchs stayed on the defensive end for most of the next five-minutes of play. The Aggies found the back of the net once more at 7:29. King's wasted no time and
Chloe Burke (Jr.) created a tally for the Monarchs at 6:52 with an assist by
Kyleigh Dunworth (Jr.). Delaware Valley did not go silent and scored three straight goals to end the first quarter up 5-1.

The second quarter was much like the first with the Aggies having control. King's played hard, but Delaware Valley continued to pester their hosts and went on another 4-0 run with 1:24 remaining. Dunworth took advantage on a free position attempt and scored at 0:17. The Monarchs were down 9-2 heading into halftime.

The Aggies maintained their momentum in the third quarter and scored four straight goals. King's had a player-up when Dunworth collected her second assist of the game with another goal by Burke at 2:31. Though Delaware Valley responded with their own goal at 0:20. At the end of the third quarter, the Aggies had a 13-3 lead.

The fourth and final quarter went back-and-forth between the two adversaries as the Monarchs looked to create their own momentum. Delaware Valley scored their last tally of the game at 6:48 by McKeegan. From then on it remained scoreless for the rest of the matchup. King's fell 14-3 at the final buzzer.

The Monarchs finished with 14 shots and 28 ground balls. Burke produced two goals on four shots. Dunworth had three points with two assists and one goal. Dias earned seven draw control wins with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sidney Bush (Sr.) created nine saves in net.

The Aggies ended with 35 shots, 34 ground balls, and went 19-23 in clears. Susan Rawding had a team-high of five goals with four ground balls. McKeegan followed with her own four goals and added three assists to the stat sheet. Ashley Birmingham won five draw controls and picked up seven ground balls. Emily Drake had 10 saves as goalkeeper.

King's will be back in action on Saturday, April 6
th at 1 p.m. to battle against the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley on home turf. The squad will travel to Stevens for their first MAC Freedom road test on Wednesday, April 10
th at 5 p.m.
