Kopec and Ciszak Record Big Hits Despite Monarchs' Loss to Albertus Magnus

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (Mar. 9, 2024) - - King's College baseball fell 12-4 to Albertus Magnus College today in the Monarchs' third day of The Ripken Experience. King's is now 3-5 this season so far as the Falcons its first win of the season and are now 1-0. Nick Ciszak hit a triple in the Monarchs loss, while Brendan Kopec had a double.

The Falcons put themselves on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly out to center field to earn an RBI. Albertus Magnus's lead was short lived however as the Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Ciszak scored on a balk after being walked, stealing second and then advancing to third on a wild pitch. The game remained tied at 1-1 for the second and third innings as well. Ciszak ripped a triple to right field in the third inning, but King's was unable to capitalize on his positioning.

After the Falcons loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, they broke the tie after a batter was hit by a pitch and their runners advanced to score an RBI. Shortly after that, Albertus Magnus scored on another sacrifice fly, this time to left field to end the fourth inning with a 3-1lead.

Albertus Magnus loaded the bases again at the top of the fifth before sending another runner home after flying out to center field. The Falcons scored a fifth run during a Monarch double play as Chase Yochem caught a pop fly in right field, then threw to Owen Kosar to get the third out on third to end the top of the inning. Albertus Magnus led 5-1 by the end of the fifth inning.

Despite the top of the sixth being a short showing at the plate for the Falcons, they still managed to put one on the scoreboard after sending a runner home on a Monarch error, putting Albertus Magnus ahead 6-1. In the top of the seventh, the Falcons continued to build its lead when Eric Galarza hit a homer for one run. King's tightened its trail in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases before Caleb Graham sent a hit to third base allowing Zach Day to score. Albertus Magnus led 7-2 over King's at the bottom of the seventh.

The Falcons scored their eighth run in the top of the eighth after hitting a double to left field and earning one RBI to get ahead 8-1 going into the bottom of the inning. Both Yochem and Day were walked to get on base before Kopec ripped his double to left field to send both of them home for two RBIs and tightening the Monarchs' trail to 8-4 behind the Falcons.

Albertus Magnus ended the game strong adding four more runs to its side of the scoreboard in the final inning of the game. The Falcons loaded the bases with their first three hitters before sending a single to right field for their nineth run of the day. They scored their final three runs on walks to ultimately defeat the Monarchs 12-4.

The Monarchs combined for eight strikeouts from the mound, including five from Day alone. Justin Hoadley added two more and Jeff Higgins tallied one. Day also led the team with two runs in addition to one from Yochem and one from Ciszak. Kopec led in RBIs with two and Graham contributed one as well.
