HOBOKEN, NJ (April 10, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team had their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom road test on Wednesday evening against #13 Stevens (9-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom). The Monarchs (1-11, 0-3 MAC Freedom) fell to the Ducks 25-2 at DeBaun University Turf Fields.
Stevens started off strong in the opening quarter and scored five straight goals. Yet the Monarchs stayed disciplined and gained a draw control win that turned into
Ashley Dias (Jr.) finding the back of the net at 12:08, thanks to an assist by
Sarah Schultz (So.). The Ducks scored once again, but Dias answered back with another goal at 9:17. Though that did not stall their hosts as Stevens found the back of the net nine more times to take a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Ducks maintained their momentum and scored two straight goals with 11:06 left of the first half. King's defense played hard causing shot clock violations, turnovers, and
Sidney Bush (Sr.) making timely saves. The second quarter remained scoreless and heading into halftime the Monarchs were down 16-2.
Though King's slowed their opponents down throughout the third quarter by causing turnovers and saves by
Alyssa Reeber (Fy.), Stevens continued to pester the Monarchs. The Ducks maintained their lead by adding more tallies to the scoreboard. At the end of the third, the score was 19-2 Stevens.
The fourth and final quarter was much like third and at the final buzzer King's were defeated 25-2.
Dias scored two goals with
Sarah Schultz connecting her both times.
Chloe Burke earned three draw control win in the contest. The squad witnessed another career milestone as Bush recorded her 300
th save and finished with five saves. Reeber picked up a team-high three ground balls and seven saves.
Stevens' Maddie Hogan had five goals, three assists, and two ground balls. Anna Velardi collected four ground balls with 3 caused turnovers and one goal. Stefanie Sellitto earned 13 draw control wins. Kailyn Vautour produced two saves in net.
The Monarchs are back on the road on Saturday, April 13th to take on the Bulldogs of DeSales at 12 p.m. The crew will return to home turf on Wednesday, April 17th at 7 p.m. to battle against FDU-Florham.
