WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 17, 2024) -- A slow second quarter sets the King's College women's lacrosse team back in the loss to FDU-Florham on Wednesday night. The Monarchs dropped their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest 21-10 to the Devils in McCarthy Stadium.

The first quarter was a battle with both teams trading shots. King's (1-13, 0-5 MAC Freedom) got on the board first with
Emilee Schultz (So.) finding the back of the net and
Kyleigh Dunworth (Jr.) dishing out the assist at 13:43. From then on it went back-and-forth as the Monarchs caused several turnovers. After eight minutes of no goals, FDU-Florham (4-7, 1-3 MAC Freedom) capitalized on a free position attempt and gained a tally at 5:30 to tie the score. The Monarchs regained their edge with a draw control win by
Ashley Dias (Jr.).Â
Maria Schneider (So.) found
Sarah Schultz (So.) at 3:45 for a Monarch goal. The Devils were not going silent and soon after they found the back of the net to tie the game once more at 3:15. In the final 2:30 of the first quarter both adversaries traded a goal each to end it 3-3 heading into the second quarter.

FDU-Florham maintained their momentum and netted a goal at 11:46. From that point forward the Devils went on a 3-0 run with 8:49 left on the clock. Dias and Schneider broke up the run with back-to-back goals to put King's within two of their visitors. FDU-Florham scored seven straight goals to end the first half with a 14-5 lead.

The third quarter was much like the second and the Devils opened with 4-0 jolt. The Monarchs pestered their opponents and as time was running down,
Chloe Burke (Jr.) found the back of the net with three seconds to go of the third quarter. King's continued to edge FDU-Florham and Dunworth netted a free position goal at 14:10 of the fourth quarter. At 11:59,
Emilee Schultz found Schneider for another tally on the scoreboard. The Monarchs played strong, but the Devils were able to take advantage of a free-position attempt to increase their lead to 19-8. King's won the draw control and Burke ran down the field to score an unassisted goal at 7:30 for a hat trick. The teams battled for five-minutes when
Sarah Schultz found the back of the net with a player up at 2:22. FDU-Florham added two more tallies to the scoreboard before the final buzzer. The final score in McCarthy Stadium was 21-10 Devils.

King's had six different players find the back of the net while finishing with a total of 23 shots, 26 ground balls, and 14 draw control wins. Burke had a team-best of three goals, four ground balls, and six draw control wins.
Sarah Schultz and Schneider were right behind with two goals each. Dunworth collected three points with two assists and one goal while picking up four ground balls.
Sidney Bush (Sr.) finished with 10 saves in net.

FDU-Florham ended with 42 shots, 32 ground balls, 19 draw control wins, and went 13-15 in clears. Julianna Medina fueled the offense with seven goals, one assist, four ground balls, and five draw control wins. Alexis Ashton followed with five goals, one assist, four ground balls, and nine draw control wins. Starting goalkeeper, Alison Kozik had eight saves for the night.

th at Misericordia with a 7 p.m. start. The squad will finish their regular season on the road at Arcadia on Wednesday, April 24
th at 5 p.m.
