First Quarter Sets Monarchs Back in Loss to Misericordia

DALLAS, PA (April 20, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team fall to Middle Atlantic (MAC) Freedom opponent Misericordia Saturday night. The Monarchs lost 16-4 to the Cougars in Mangelsdorf Field.
 
Misericordia (5-8, 3-2 MAC Freedom) took control early on and had an 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
The second quarter was unlike the first as the King's (1-13, 0-6 MAC Freedom) defense stayed strong with several caused turnovers and saves by Sidney Bush (Sr.). The Monarchs only allowed one goal by the Cougars at 6:41. As time was dwindling down, King's capitalized on a Misericordia turnover and Sarah Schultz (So.) found the back of the net thanks to an assist by Chloe Burke (Jr.) with 0:14 left on the clock. The Monarchs were down 12-1 heading into halftime.
 
Burke won the opening draw control of the second half and allowed King's several shot opportunities. The Cougars ultimately maintained their control with a goal at 12:50. The Monarchs held on defensively, but Misericordia eventually snuck in another tally. At the end of the third quarter the Cougars led 14-1.
 
King's continued to fight hard in the fourth quarter and at 14:02, Maria Schneider (So.) found Burke for a Monarch goal. Misericordia took advantage of a player-up situation and found the back the net at 10:26. Though Burke answered back five minutes later with her third goal of the night for a hat trick. After a foul by the Cougars, Schneider added a tally at 3:23 to get on the board. Misericordia closed out the evening with one more goal to win it 16-4 at the final buzzer.
 
Burke led the team with two goals, four ground balls, and four draw control wins. Ashley Dias (Jr.) had three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw control wins. Bush collected five saves in net as starting goalkeeper.
 
The Cougars' Michelle Torzilli earned six goals, seven draw control wins, and four ground balls. Rachael Shook had seven draw control wins, two goals, and one assist. Natalie McKinney produced six saves for the evening.
 
King's will finish the regular season with a road matchup against Arcadia at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th .
