Monarchs Face 9-5 Setback to RV Arcadia in MAC Freedom Matchup

AMBLER, PA (April 19, 2024) - - Zach Day, Chase Yochem and Justin Stefanowicz each hit doubles – including two from Day –  in King's College baseball's 9-5 setback to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opponent RV Arcadia University this afternoon at the Knights' own Skip Wilson Field. The Monarchs now drop to 9-19 overall this season and 4-12 in MAC Freedom play, while Arcadia advances to 23-10.

Day and Yochem worked together to give the Monarchs an early start hitting back-to-back doubles in the first inning. Yochem's gave Day the opportunity to reach home and put King's ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard until the bottom of the second, when the Knights picked up an RBI off a single to right center to tie things up at 1-1.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth inning when Arcadia notched two more runs, including one in the team's first at-bat off a home run from Tommy Ajjan. The Knights picked up a second run on a sacrifice hit to second base to get ahead 3-1. They continued to build on their lead in the bottom of the fifth as the Knights advanced home on a sacrifice fly to center field to up 4-1.

Arcadia earned another run early in the bottom of the sixth on a single to center field before advancing home twice from walked batters to boost the Knights' lead to 7-1. Both teams went scoreless again in the seventh inning until the Monarchs picked up offensive momentum again in the top of the eighth as they put three more runs on the scoreboard. After Brennen Schneider, Kevin Kullman and Owen Kosar all loaded the bases, they advanced on a balk by the Arcadia pitcher to score one run. Day then stepped to the plate to hit his second double of the day for two RBIs, bringing the Monarchs within just three runs of the Knights at 7-4. Arcadia responded with two more runs for the team in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single and advancing home from a balk.

The Monarchs tallied one more run in the top of the nineth when Stefanowicz doubled to left center, but it was not enough to bring King's back as Arcadia won with a final score of 9-5 over the Monarchs.

Day led the Monarchs' offense with three hits, two RBIs and a run, while Schneider added two hits and two runs; Kullman had three hits and one run; and Yochem and Stefanowicz each contributed a hit and an RBI. Kosar also tallied a hit and a run for King's. Dusty Shaver allowed only one hit and one run on the mound for the Monarchs as well.

King's and Arcadia both return to Lipo Field tomorrow, April 20, for a MAC Freedom doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon following the Monarchs' Senior Day ceremony.
