WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 19, 2024) -- On the heels of another big announcement out of Wilkes-Barre, the King's College football program and Head Coach Mike Cebrosky unveiled the addition of a second new coordinator to the coaching staff. Mickey Rehring has been named Defensive Coordinator and will coach the linebackers as announced on Friday afternoon.
Â
Rehring brings a wealth of experience and success to Wilkes-Barre after spending four active seasons as the Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment and Development and Head Coach at SUNY Maritime College with a 16-24 overall record and an 11-13 mark between their Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests. Rehring guided the Privateers to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2019 for just the second time in school history.
Â
He brought individual success to SUNY Maritime, coaching 48 all-conference honorees, three All-ECFC Players of the Year, and one NEWMAC Special Teams Player of the Year. Regionally, Rehring produced six All-Region players and the program's second All-American.
Â
In his role as Assistant Athletic Director, Rehring aided all 18 Privateer varsity programs as the direct liaison with the Associate Dean of Admissions.
Â
"I'd like to start by thanking Cheryl Ish and Mike Cebrosky for giving me this amazing opportunity," stated Rehring. "I am blessed to become a Monarch and help build upon the strong football tradition that is established here at King's. My family and I are eager to get to Wilkes-Barre and help bring MAC Championships to campus!"
Prior to his time in the Bronx, Rehring served as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Johns Hopkins from July 2012 to February 2019 with a 64-8 record, seven consecutive Centennial Conference Championships, and a 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals appearance as the Defensive Coordinator. He also coached four Centennial Conference Defensive Players of the Year and 37 All-Centennial Conference Players.
Â
Additionally, he spent time in Brunswick, Maine as the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach at Bowdoin College from July 2009 to June 2012 after a one-year stint as the Defensive Line Coach at his alma mater, Franklin & Marshall College.
Â
"It is with pure excitement that we welcome Coach Mickey Rehring, his wife Trish, and his children Mickey and Serena," said Cebrosky. "Coach Rehring's resume and success speaks for itself. Coach Rehring has recruited, developed, and mentored numerous student-athletes to unrivaled success on and off the field. He brings with him the type of values, leadership, and character that align step-by-step with the values of King's College."
Â
Rehring earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Franklin & Marshall in 2008 and was a four-year starter on the defensive line for the Diplomats, earning All-Centennial Conference Second Team in 2005. He also earned the school's Tom Gilberg Award for Leadership and Commitment before graduating. He is also currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University.
Rehring is settling in to his duties in Wilkes-Barre throughout the remainder of their spring practice sessions. In addition to his duties as Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach, Rehring aids in the recruiting, planning, video, and daily duties among the Monarchs coaching staff.
