Women's Soccer Sets New Program Record for Most Goals Scored in Single Game

WILKES-BARRE, PA (August 31, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team (1-0-1) recorded the most goals scored in a single game in program history Saturday evening against Keystone College (0-1-0) at McCarthy stadium. The Monarchs beat the Giants 12-0, breaking the previous record of 11 against Lincoln in 2005.

The Monarchs had eight different goal scorers take part in the offensive dominance. Junior midfielder/forward Anya Chervak had three goals in the first half, notching the first hat trick since Breanna Jacinto against Centenary in 2019.

Junior midfielder Megan Thompson got the ball rolling for the Monarchs as she scored in the sixth minute of play off an assist from Maryanna Garcia. Chervak then scored her three consecutive goals within four minutes to put King's ahead 4-0 early on in game play.

Victoria Hanna and Jenna Waldbillig got in on the action with two goals each, along with goals from Maryanna Garcia, Taryn Conover, Julia Capicchioni and Madison Jellema.
The Giants of Keystone College did struggle with injuries for a majority of the second half and even played man down for a few minutes.

Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Crawford got the start in net and had two great saves with first-year Courtney Monard in to relieve her for the second half. King's tallied 27 shots on goal throughout the game compared to Keystone's 2.

Third year head coach Craig Wilkinson will look to keep the momentum going as the season continues.

King's is back in action Wednesday, September 11 as they take on Wilkes University at McCarthy Stadium at 7 p.m.
