WILKES-BARRE, PA (August 30, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team opened their 2024 season at home at McCarthy Stadium against the Stevenson University Mustangs on Friday evening. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Throughout a relatively slow first half, neither team could gain much offensive momentum. Both teams recorded three shots each in the first half, resulting in three saves for King's first-year goalkeeper
Findley Hillebrant and one for Stevenson's Ava Patterson. The game was scoreless going into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Mustangs got on the board first as Madison Rytina scored off of a defensive miscommunication for the Monarchs and an assist from Brooke Knabe in the 49
th minute.
The Monarchs were able to bounce back later in the game with a goal in the 59
th minute from senior captain
Cady McKean and an assist from first year
Taryn Conover. Hillebrant notched six total saves to help the Monarchs control the pace of the game. Neither teams were able to capitalize on offensive opportunities and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
King's is back in action Saturday, August 31 as they take on Keystone College at McCarthy Stadium at 4 p.m.
