WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 11, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team moves to 1-3-2 after falling 1-0 to cross-town rival Wilkes, who improve to 2-1-1.
The Monarchs meant business tonight at McCarthy Stadium as they maintained possession throughout the majority of the first 45 minutes of play and controlled the game pace accordingly. King's had plenty of offensive opportunities, tallying nine shots one, but Wilkes goalkeeper Amanda Lee had some amazing saves to keep the game even 0-0 going into halftime.
King's kept up the pace following the break, keeping the ball in Wilkes territory for a majority of game play. Following back-to-back fouls on the Monarchs, the combination of a crowded six-yard box area and a loose ball resulted in an own goal for King's in the 70
th minute of play. Through a very competitive and tough outing for both teams, the only yellow card of the game was a issued to Lady Colonel Holly Feese in minute 77.
The strong offensive efforts from the Monarchs were spread across the board throughout all 90 minutes as
Raina Adelman recorded two shots on goal and
Jessica Juarez,
Maddie Wise,
Karissa Coleman,
Taryn Conover,
Maryanna Garcia and
Maya Parker each had shots of their own. In the last ten minutes of the second half, the Monarchs had four corner kick opportunities but were unable to convert. The late goal resulted in a 1-0 win for the Lady Colonels.
King's is back in action this Sunday, September 15 as they take on Rutgers-Camden at McCarthy Stadium at 2 p.m.
