WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 15, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team lost 3-0 to the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. The Monarchs move to 1-4-3 as the Scarlet Raptors notched their first win of the season to become 1-3-2. This was only the second-ever meeting between the two teams in program history.
Rutgers-Camden wasted no time getting to the action as they had the first corner kick of the game at 5:20 and an unassisted goal by Emily Owens with 7:23 on the clock. In minute 26, Ava Stowell snuck the ball past Monarch goalkeeper
Ashlyn Crawford for the Scarlet Raptors' second goal of the game. Six minutes later, in the 32
nd minute of play, Asia Horne fed Josie Jackson-Conner the ball, putting it in the back of the net to extend the Rutgers-Camden lead to 3-0 going into halftime.
Offensive momentum proved hard to gain and maintain for both teams in the second half. Through 90 minutes, Rutgers-Camden narrowly outshot the Monarchs 11-9. King's tallied five shots on goal compared to seven for the Scarlet Raptors, with two coming from
Megan Thompson and one each for
Leah Sankey,
Maryanna Garcia and
Victoria Hanna. Eight fouls were charged against each team respectively but there were no other penalties.
King's is back in action this Wednesday, September 18 as they host Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
