WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 12, 2024) -- Coming off their first win of the 2024 season, the King's College field hockey program is proud to announce the addition of
Ashley Thalassinos to the coaching staff in 2024.
Thalassinos is a 2024 graduate of King's with a degree in criminal justice and sociology. A four-year member of the Monarch field hockey program, Thalassinos was named captain during the spring of her junior year and appeared in 51 career games with 49 starts. The midfielder totaled 11 points on a pair of goals and seven assists, earning All-MAC Freedom Honorable Mention recognition as a senior in 2023. She also collected a MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week nod coming off a senior day victory over Manhattanville.
"Switching from playing to being their coach has been something I'm profoundly grateful for," said Thalassinos. "We have a group of talented players that I'm excited to coach this season. Coming back and being alongside the coaches that I feel have built me into a better athlete is such a privilege. I'm looking forward to seeing the team compete for a championship, and I'm proud to be on the sidelines this season while they do it."
The Matamoras, Pa. native was also very involved in the King's campus community as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), MAC SAAC, Leo's Leaders, the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honors Society, and the Pennsylvania Law and Leadership Academy.
A three-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient, two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree, and member of the Dean's List, Thalassinos ended her career with a distinguished honor at King's. She collected the Monarch Mission award which is presented annually to a student-athlete in the senior class who was a member of SAAC and not only represented their team well on and off the field, but also exemplified the King's College mission.
"We are happy to have her unique voice as part of King's College field hockey in a coaching capacity," stated Associate Head Coach Martha Kerrick. "She brings a passion for the game and an understanding of the program that is very valuable."
Thalassinos has already begun her duties with the King's field hockey program and will be responsible for practice and game preparations and other day-to-day duties.
