Field Hockey Falls in First Road Game

WESTMINSTER, MD (September 14, 2024) -- In their first road game of the 2024 season, the King's College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision at McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon. With the setback, the Monarchs fall to 1-3 overall, while the Green Terror improved to 2-3.

It was a slow-moving first quarter before McDaniel (2-3) got on the board 7:37 into the period. King's (1-3) go ta solid opportunity late in the period with a penalty corner with 2:20 to play, but Emma Clark's shot went wide as the Monarchs trailed, 1-0, at the first break.

Another score by the hosts 4:41 into the second gave the Green Terror their insurance, but that stood as the only shot of the period as the game leaned in favor of McDaniel, 2-0 at halftime.

The Monarchs found their rhythm in the third after two early attempts by McDaniel. King's recorded four penalty corners across a two minute span, but on the fourth try Katey Shoemaker found the back of the cage on a feed from Emma Bealla to close within 2-1 with 6:30 remaining in the third. Just 3:05 later, the Green Terror tacked on another goal as the Monarchs faced a 3-1 deficit heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

The final period went to McDaniel as they posted a pair of goals behind their 4-2 edge on shots as the King's College field hockey team fell, 5-1, on Saturday in Maryland.

Shoemaker scored her first career goal in the loss, while Bealla added another assist to her tally this season. Clark led the offense with two shots, while Emily Bollinger posted three saves through the first 51:25 of action.

Summer Gregory, Charley Noah, and Violet Dyer each had a goal and an assist for McDaniel, with Noah recording a team-leading four shots in the win. Teaghen Rieder picked up the win in the cage with two saves.

King's finished the contest with a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners while also adding six shots with three on target.

The Monarchs return to Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday evening as they are set to host the University of Scranton in non-conference action. Game time at McCarthy Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
