WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 17, 2024) -- Goalkeeper
Emily Bollinger set a new single-game best with 10 saves as the King's College field hockey team dropped a tough 7-0 setback to a talented University of Scranton program on Tuesday night. With the loss in the non-conference contest at McCarthy Stadium, the Monarchs fall to 1-4 overall, while the Royals improve to 6-1.
Â
The Monarchs held their ground early, holding off the first Scranton (6-1) score until 7:39 into the contest. King's (1-4) got a solid look in the ninth minute as
Shaylee Heffron's shot went just wide into the side of the cage, but the Royals took back their control, firing off a flurry of six shots before the seventh found the goal with 3:11 to play in the quarter to hold a 2-0 edge after the first frame. Scranton maintained their momentum in the second, but the Monarch defense held firm, allowing just one goal in the period as King's trailed, 3-0, at the break.
Â
Scranton took advantage of an early card on the Monarchs as they scored both of their third-quarter goals within a 1:33 span. A fourth-quarter surge from King's saw the Monarchs hold a 6-3 edge in penalty corners, resulting in three shots, but the Royals added to their lead with another pair in the frame as the Monarchs dropped their 7-0 decision on Tuesday night.
Â
Heffron put up a pair of shots, while
Ellie Parra added two of her own. Bollinger set her new single-game high of 10 saves in 49:58 of action.
Â
Six different Royals scored in the win, led by Katie Redding with two goals and an assist off five shots, while Bridget Abraldes added a goal and a pair of assists. Starting goalkeeper Julie Rogel earned the win in the combined shutout, appearing through the first three quarters of action.
Â
King's made up the margin in penalty corner with their explosive fourth-period effort, totaling nine for the game.
Â
The Monarchs will head out for their second road contest of the season on Saturday afternoon as they take on Neumann University in non-conference play at 4:00 p.m.
