READING, PA (September 28, 2024) -- The King's College women's soccer team tied Alvernia University 2-2 Saturday afternoon, moving to 1-4-4 and handing the Golden Wolves their first draw of the season, pushing them to 3-6-1.
Through the first 45 minutes of play, King's outshot Alvernia 6-3, had three corner kick opportunities and two fouls. Both teams were issued yellow cards:
Jenna Waldbillig in minute 27 and Olivia Swartz in minute 29. The score remained 0-0 going into halftime.
One minute into the second half, first-year defender
Maya Parker scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from fellow first-year
Jessica Juarez. Seven minutes later, in the 53
rd minute, Parker struck again, this time with an assist from senior captain
Leah Sankey to make it 2-0. Junior midfielder
Megan Thompson was issued a yellow card shortly after in minute 56.
The Golden Wolves answered back in the same minute as the card with a goal from Kalyn Keen to cut the Monarchs lead in half. Later, after a corner kick for the Golden Wolves and a foul on
Leigha Fostveit, Keen took another shot to the bottom right of the goal that was saved by goalkeeper
Ashlyn Crawford, but Tayler Flaherty followed up with the equalizing goal in minute 81. The 2-2 final score stood as time expired.
The Monarchs are back in action this Tuesday, October 1 as they host Lycoming College at McCarthy Stadium at 4 p.m.
