Pyyhtia Scores First Collegiate Goal in 4-1 Road Win Over Arcadia

COLMAR, PA (January 25, 2025) – The King's College men's ice hockey team secured a 4-1 road Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) win over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at the Hatfield Ice Arena. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 5-11-1, 3-9-1 in conference play while the Knights move to 8-7-2, 6-5-2. First year defenseman Emil Pyyhtia scored his first collegiate goal and sophomore goaltender Diego D'Alessandro tallied 46 saves in net.

In the first period, Arcadia's Bryce Battaglia was penalized for slashing at 6:19. King's then received a team penalty for having too many players on the ice at 13:29 in which the Knights capitalized on with a power play goal from Battaglia at 15:10, assisted by Michael Hertzberg. Alexander Ray was called for hitting from behind at 14:52 and the Knights led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

Patrick Nowak began the second period in the penalty box after being called for hooking at 2:16. Pyyhtia scored his first collegiate goal midway through the period with help from Zane Burleigh. Ray gave the Monarchs the 2-1 lead with a goal at 13:38 off an assist from Teodor Benno Vaage.

Within the first 30 seconds of the final 20 minutes of regulation, Ethan Hersant found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1 off an assist from Benno Vaage. Donnie Feldman was penalized for roughing at 5:09, resulting in a power play goal for Shota Kaneko at 6:59 with an assist from Brendan Krawczyk to make it 4-1. Kaneko was sent to the box for tripping at 8:53, and Jakub Viedemann and Connor Dennis were both disqualified from the game at 19:47. The 4-1 score stood as time expired.  

The Monarchs return to the Hatfield Ice Arena tomorrow, January 26 for a 3:45 p.m. rematch with the Knights.
