Monarchs Downed by Cougars in Women's Hoops

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 25, 2025) -- In their return to McGrane Gymnasium, the King's College women's basketball team fell to the visiting Misericordia University, 68-50, on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. The Monarchs fall to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Cougars improve to 4-14 with a 2-4 conference mark.
 
The first quarter was a fast-paced affair, but the Cougars had the final say in the frame, scoring a three with 56 seconds remaining, to take a 12-11 lead at the end of the period.
 
Misericordia (4-14, 2-4 MAC Freedom) kept the momentum in their favor in the second, going on a 10-2 run over the first 5:11 to jump ahead, 22-13. A layup from Cadie Lewis sparked a 7-2 rally by King's (6-11, 2-4 MAC Freedom) to end the half as the Monarchs cut the deficit to just four, 24-20, heading into the locker room.
 
King's kept the game within reach throughout the third, never trailing by more than seven, but a buzzer-beating three from Caisey Heyman put Misericordia back on top, 44-34, entering the final quarter of play.
 
Juleesah Hines took over for the Monarchs to start the fourth, converting a three-point play as part of her seven-point spurt to make it a 47-41 game with 7:59 remaining. The Misericordia lead went back up to double digits before Gianna Dickson converted for one from the charity stripe, as trailed, 53-44, with 4:42 to play. The Cougars then used 10 unanswered points to rebuild their lead and never looked back as the Monarchs fell, 68-50, in the MAC Freedom match up in McGrane on Saturday afternoon.
 
Alli Lindsay led all scorers with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal, while Hines totaled 13 points, five boards, and two steals. Dickson added nine points and a team-high three steals, while Lauren Casey posted seven points, five rebounds, and four dimes. Additionally, Lewis contributed five points and three rebounds, and Claire Aufiero snagged two steals.
 
Jocelyn Grosch paced the Cougars with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists and four steals.
 
King's shot 34.6% from the floor, dishing out 12 assists on their 18 fields goals, while the defense forced 20 Misericordia miscues. Inside the stat sheet, King's had the edge in points in the paint, 26-22.
 
The Monarchs will look to defend their home court on Wednesday night, taking on Lebanon Valley College in MAC Freedom play at 7:00 p.m.
