NEWARK, NJ (October 8, 2025)— A
Mackenzie Seeley goal in the 22
nd minute proved to be the game-winner for the King's College women's soccer team as they defeated Rutgers-Newark by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday night. The win for the Monarchs is their third in their last five games, improving to 4-7-1 on the season while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 7-5-1.
The game-winner from Seeley came in the 22
nd off a set piece. After
Jenna Waldbillig drew a foul just outside the left corner of the box, Seeley curled a shot over the Scarlet Raider keeper's outstretched arm and into the top-left corner to give the Monarchs a 1–0 lead.
Rutgers–Newark applied steady pressure in the first half, outshooting King's 10–2 and earning six corner kicks to the Monarchs' none. Goalkeeper
Courtney Monard stopped all four shots on target to help King's preserve a 1–0 lead at the break.
As the second half played out, the Scarlet Raiders continued to challenge the Monarchs defense with another 10 shots and six on goal along with ten more corner kicks. Rutgers-Newark pushed for the equalizer in the last 20, taking five of the six second half shots on goal.
Monard made a pair of stellar saves in the 75th and 80th minutes on her way to a 10-save night. First, she punched away a point-blank shot, then leapt to swipe away a top-shelf attempt from outside the box.
Despite trailing in possession, shots and corners, the Monarchs made their chances count and relied on strong defensive play, highlighted by Monard's 10 saves, to hold on for a 1–0 victory.
Seeley's goal marked the first of her collegiate career as she and
Victoria Hanna led the Monarchs with two shots on goal. Monard tied her career-high of 10 saves that she set on September 17
th against Lycoming and earned her third shutout of the season.
King's women's soccer hits the road for Madison, NJ on Saturday, October 11
th to take on FDU-Florham with kickoff set for 12:00 PM.
