WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 13, 2025) -- The King's College football team heads to Dallas this Saturday for their regular-season finale against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent, Misericordia University. Kickoff against the Cougars is slated for noon. The Monarchs are looking to finish strong after last week's 40-24 loss at Widener snapped a four‑game win streak. Misericordia also aims to wrap up its regular season on a positive note in front of their home crowd following a 51-20 defeat against Delaware Valley. Both teams remain eligible for the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series, adding extra stakes to what should be an exciting matchup as the season comes down to the wire

The Coaches: Mike Cebrosky is in his second season as the head coach of the Monarchs. Cebrosky led the team through their historic 2024 season, featuring a 10-2 overall record, perfect 9-0 mark in the MAC, the first outright MAC title in program history, and berth to the NCAA Division III Football Championships. He was named MAC Coach of the Year while also coaching a program-best 20 All-MAC honorees, highlighted by two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year Russell Minor-Shaw, six D3football.com All-Region players, and Zach Barber as a D3football.com All-American. Steve Cushing has made an immediate impact in his first season as the head football coach of Misericordia University. The Cougars' 6-3 record under Cushing marks the program's best start since 2018. Prior to Misericordia, Cushing served as the defensive coordinator for the 2023 D-III National Champions, SUNY-Cortland. Overall, he spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the Red Dragons and worked as an academic and social media coordinator, where he spearheaded a significant increase in the team GPA and social media following. Cushing coached 28 All-Empire 8 players at Cortland, including two conference Players of the Year, and four All-Americans.
 
Looking at Misericordia: The Cougars enter this week's MAC matchup averaging 357.0 yards per game, including 157.2 on the ground and 199.8 through the air. Dual-threat quarterback Jacob Hunter leads the rushing attack with 636 rushing yards on 138 carries (4.6 avg) and seven scores, while running back Angelo Fluri adds 480 yards on 105 carries (4.6 avg) and nine touchdowns. Under center, Hunter has thrown for 1,773 yards and 16 touchdowns on 246 attempts, completing 53.7% of his passes. In the receiving corps, wide receiver Anthony Rucci paces the team with 35 catches for 555 yards (15.9 avg) and four touchdowns, while Jordan Alston (27 receptions, 393 yards, 4 TDs) and Jacob Hoy (30 receptions, 342 yards, 6 TDs) provide additional big-play ability. The Cougars have converted 75% of their red zone trips, scoring 29 touchdowns and a field goal on 40 chances. Defensively, Misericordia allows 345.6 yards per game and has recorded 10 sacks for 50 yards. The Cougars have nine interceptions, including defensive back Malcolm Roy, who leads the team with 3 picks, tied for second in the MAC. Linebacker Gavin Morris leads the team with 94 total tackles - good for second in the MAC - with 7.5 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, defensive lineman Owen Norman adds 3.5 TFLs and a pair of sacks. The defense has also forced six fumbles and recovered five. On special teams, Connor McLaughlin has converted 30 of 31 PATs and 1 of 3 field goals, scoring 33 points. He averages 56.9 yards per kickoff with seven touchbacks.

Single Digit Tough: The Monarchs award single digits, and now double digits to offensive linemen, based on merit and leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's.  The 2025 roster returned two single-digit members from 2024 in Tyler Carey and Brennan Robinson and have added five so far in 2025. The Monarchs now have seven Single Digit Tough players: Xander Murray (0), Jayon Hailey (1), Tyler Carey (3), Brennan Robinson (6), Michael Richino (8), James Mangine (9) and Kaleb Beers (55).
 
 
A Look at the Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs are on a three-year stretch of postseason appearances and record-breaking numbers and look to continue the trend in 2025.
  • King's looks to replace 16 All-MAC honorees from 2025 while returning First Team running back Brennan Robinson, Second Team running back Jayon Hailey and special teamer Jacob Mullery, and Honorable Mention offensive lineman Kaleb Beers. They'll also replace all six D3football.com All Region recipients and D3football.com All-American Zach Barber.
  • The staff stands at 15 members, including six alumni in Ben Bakanas, Will Cameron, Mike Karycinski, Sean Lavine, Brendan Mozeleski, and EJ Schreiner.
  • King's was tied for first in the MAC Preseason Poll with Delaware Valley among the 10 conference schools. Widener was selected to finish eighth with 29 points, ahead of Alvernia and Albright while trailing Lebanon Valley.
  • The Monarchs' rushing attack has proved vital all season long, averaging 217.4 rushing yards per game as a team in their five wins. Leading the ground game for the Monarchs is Brennan Robinson, who is second in the MAC at 115 yards per game and is first in yards per carry with 6.5. Robinson is accompanied in the backfield by seniors Shemar Ellis and Jayon Hailey.
  • Hailey has been everywhere for the Monarchs offensively, as he is the leading receiver on the team and is ranked sixth in conference with 60.4 receiving yards per contest. He is currently tied for second in the MAC with 11 total touchdowns (four rushing, seven receiving. Standing in a field of his own, Hailey is the only player in the conference to have multiple touchdowns both rushing and receiving this season.
  • Quarterback Jaelin Mims has found his footing through the air over the last four weeks, averaging just shy of 190 passing yards per game with nine touchdowns and one interception in that stretch.
  • Punter Gavin Wolfe leads the MAC with seven punts over 50 yards and ranks second in conference with 134 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
  • Looking at the return game, the Monarchs remain top of the MAC with 26.6 yards per kickoff return and one touchdown as a unit on September 27th against Eastern with an 82-yard score from Kival Clarke.
  • The King's defense has been elite on fourth down this season as they have allowed just two conversions on 13 attempts. Their 15.4% opposing success rate on fourth down ranks first in the conference.
  •  Leading the Monarch defense is senior LB Zach Hulsizer, who is currently ranked ninth in the MAC with 60 total tackles and an average of 6.7 per game.
  • The D-Line trio of Michael Richino, Xander Murray and Khalil Holley have made a lasting impact on opposing offenses in 2025 with all three ranking amongst the top sack leaders in the conference. Murray is ranked fourth with six sacks, Richino is fifth with 5.5 and Holley is ninth with four.
  • Holding things down in the secondary, Bryan Kelly remains the top pass defender in the conference with 12 passes broken up. Four Monarchs have recorded an interception this season including James Mangine, Jacob Mullery, Jayden Farmer and Murray.
