Parshall Scores Twice in Monarchs’ Loss at Elmira

PINE VALLEY, NY (November 28, 2025) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team hit the road Friday evening, returning from an abbreviated Thanksgiving break with a 10-4 loss to Elmira College in their nonconference match-up at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena. The Monarchs fall to 1-6-1 on the season while the Soaring Eagles improve to 3-5-0.

The Monarchs made a defensive stand early in the first period, as Artsiom Barashkin and Thomas Soucy laid out for a pair of blocks in the first minute of action.

King's opened the scoring at 5:20 on a set play off the draw. After Kevin Martin won a faceoff in the offensive zone, Denys Arkhypenko jumped on the loose puck and quickly fired off a no-angle shot that banked off the Soaring Eagles' goalie and into the back of the net to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Martin assisted on Arkhypenko's first of the season.

Elmira responded quickly, leveling the score at 1-1 just a minute and a half after Arkhypenko's goal. The Soaring Eagles continued to press, however a pair of saves in short succession by King's netminder Diego D'Alessandro kept the score knotted.

Shota Kaneko got in the way of a pair of shots midway through the first frame while Logan Gallagher also blocked a shot. D'Alessandro turned aside four more shots before the Monarchs were assessed the first penalty of the night at 13:59 for hooking.

The King's goaltender stood tall, making four saves on the Elmira man advantage to kill off the penalty. With just over 30 seconds left in the period, Elmira found the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

D'Alessandro opened the second period with a trio of saves to keep the Monarchs within striking distance.

The Soaring Eagles doubled their advantage at 4:01 of the middle frame, taking a 3-1 lead on an even-stength goal. They tacked on a goal at 7:11 to increase the lead to 4-1.

King's got the gate for a tripping minor at 9:16 and capitalized just four seconds into the man advantage to go up by a score of 5-1.

Kenny Vought, who relieved D'Alessandro between the pipes, made three saves before Elmira notched their sixth goal of the night at 12:48. The hosts tacked on a seventh goal at 13:55.

Braydon Buckingham fired two shots on goal late in the period while Teodor Benno Vaage added a bid, however all three were saved to send King's back to the dressing room trailing by a score of 7-1.

The Monarchs drew an elbowing minor in the early stages of the third to bring the power play unit onto the ice. Baraskin wristed a shot from the blue line that sailed through traffic, beating the Elmira goalie's glovehand side to bring the score to 7-2. Landon Bechtolt picked up a helper on Buckingham's first of the season; a power play goal at 1:41.

The Soaring Eagles responded with a pair of goals at 3:01 and 5:24 to build the lead back up to 9-2.

King's drew a pair of calls at 5:48 and 6:20 of the third period to go on a 5-on-3 man advantage. The power play saw bids from Benno Vaage, Cristo Walker and Grant Parshall, however all three shots were blocked before they made it to the net. While the first penalty expired without a goal, the Monarchs maintained possession in the offensive zone.

Shortly after the first penalized Soaring Eagle exited the box, Gallagher swung through the attacking zone and fed Parshall with a backhanded pass in motion. Parshall unleashed a blistering wrist shot that squeezed just inside the left post, moving the score to 9-3 on the power play at 8:00.

Following a 4-on-4 stretch of play, Parshall struck again for King's third unanswered goal at 11:19. After winning the faceoff, Parshall collected the puck and snapped a shot from the far faceoff dot that caught the Elmira netminder off guard and beat his glove. Parshall notched his second goal of the evening to cut the Monarchs' deficit to five.

King's headed back to the power play at 14:25 and registered shots from Gallagher and Walker, however the Soaring Eagles managed to tack on a shorthanded marker at 16:08 to build their lead to 10-4, sealing the final score.

Parshall led the Monarch offense with a pair of goals on three shots with 18 faceoff wins. Arkhypenko and Barashkin also lit the lamp while Soucy recorded a team-high five shots on goal.

Defensively, Bennett Anklewich and Kaneko led the charge with three blocked shots apiece. D'Alessandro made 22 saves while Vought added an additional 11 in his relief appearance.

The Monarchs return to the ice tomorrow afternoon, taking on Nazareth University at Tim Horton's Ice Complex at 4:00 p.m.
