WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 6, 2025) -- The King's College football team hits the road for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) clash against Widener University this Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Monarchs aim to build on the momentum from last weekend's dominant 52-0 win over Alvernia, which featured a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive performance. On the other side, the Pride return to their home turf looking to bounce back after a 34-14 loss to Lebanon Valley, where they struggled to contain the run and were held to just 218 yards of total offense.

The Coaches: Mike Cebrosky is in his second season as the head coach of the Monarchs. Cebrosky led the team through their historic 2024 season, featuring a 10-2 overall record, perfect 9-0 mark in the MAC, the first outright MAC title in program history, and berth to the NCAA Division III Football Championships. He was named MAC Coach of the Year while also coaching a program-best 20 All-MAC honorees, highlighted by two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year Russell Minor-Shaw, six D3football.com All-Region players, and Zach Barber as a D3football.com All-American. Mike Barainyak enters his seventh season as the head coach of Widener. Last season, Barainyak led the team to a 5-6 overall record (5-4 in the MAC). The Pride finished the regular season winning three of their last four games and earned a spot in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series for the third time in program history and the first time since 2021.
 
Looking at Widener: The Pride enter the final stretch of the MAC schedule looking to build momentum after a mixed start to the season. Widener is averaging 218.5 total yards of offense per game, including 81.9 rushing yards and 136.6 passing yards per contest. Sophomore running back Dalton Wickel leads the ground game with 237 yards on 68 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per rush. Quarterback Caiden Leszczynski has thrown for 588 yards and two touchdowns on 137 attempts, while Eli Warfel has added 373 passing yards and two scores. Malachi Holmes leads the team in receiving yards with 320 and ranks ninth in the conference with 17.8 yards per catch. Marquell Perry ranks third in the MAC in yards per catch (23.0), totaling 184 yards on just eight receptions. Kyhlil Jones has also been a consistent contributor, matching Holmes with 18 receptions and adding and two touchdowns. Widener has converted on 70.6% of its red zone trips, scoring eight touchdowns and adding four field goals on 17 total attempts. On defense, Widener has allowed 334.3 yards per game and leads the MAC in sacks with 20 for 121 yards. The Pride also top the conference in interceptions with 11, including two returned for touchdowns. Linebacker Luke Shimko leads the team with 63 total tackles and ranks among the MAC leaders in interception return yards (59), while defensive lineman Michael Miller ranks third in the conference with 11.0 tackles for loss. Widener also ranks near the top of the conference in forced fumbles (8) and fumble recoveries (6). On special teams, Fred Adler leads the MAC with eight made field goals and has scored 34 total points, converting 72.7% of his attempts.
 
Away Threads: The Monarchs will hit the turf sporting white jerseys with gold pants along with their traditional gold helmets.
 
Single Digit Tough: The Monarchs award single digits, and now double digits to offensive linemen, based on merit and leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's.  The 2025 roster returned two single-digit members from 2024 in Tyler Carey and Brenann Robinson and have added five so far in 2025. The Monarchs now have seven Single Digit Tough players: Xander Murray (0), Jayon Hailey (1), Tyler Carey (3), Brennan Robinson (6), Michael Richino (8), James Mangine (9) and Kaleb Beers (55).
 
Captains This Weekend: For the coin toss this weekend, Jaelin Mims and Kaleb Beers will represent the offense while Zach Hulsizer and Tarylle Stewart will be representatives of the defense.
 
A Look at the Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs are on a three-year stretch of postseason appearances and record-breaking numbers and look to continue the trend in 2025.
  • King's looks to replace 16 All-MAC honorees from 2025 while returning First Team running back Brennan Robinson, Second Team running back Jayon Hailey and special teamer Jacob Mullery, and Honorable Mention offensive lineman Kaleb Beers. They'll also replace all six D3football.com All Region recipients and D3football.com All-American Zach Barber.
  • The staff stands at 15 members, including six alumni in Ben Bakanas, Will Cameron, Mike Karycinski, Sean Lavine, Brendan Mozeleski, and EJ Schreiner.
  • King's was tied for first in the MAC Preseason Poll with Delaware Valley among the 10 conference schools. Widener was placed fifth in the poll with 53 points, ahead of FDU-Florham and trailing Eastern and Stevenson.
  • The Monarchs come into Saturday's matchup against the Pride with a four-game winning streak, as they've outscored their opponents 132-52 in that four-week span.
  • The Monarchs' run game has been the engine that keeps their offense moving, averaging 217.4 rushing yards per game as a team in their five wins. At the forefront of the rushing attack is Brennan Robinson, who currently leads the MAC in yards per game and yards per carry with 118.8 and 6.7, respectively. Joining him in the backfield are seniors Shemar Ellis and Jayon Hailey.
  • Hailey also leads King's in receiving yards and is ranked fifth in the MAC with 61.3 receiving yards per game. He is tied for second in scoring in the conference with 10 scores (six receiving, four rushing) and is the only player in the MAC with multiple touchdowns in each category.
  • The passing attack has started to find its rhythm for King's in recent games, as Jaelin Mims has thrown for over 200 yards in the last two matchups. He's completed 30 of his last 42 passes, five of them resulting in touchdowns with no interceptions.
  • On special teams, King's has utilized the third part of the game to their advantage, blocking three kicks in the last four contests. Punter Gavin Wolfe ranks first in the MAC with seven punts over 50 yards and ranks second in conference with 13 punts inside the opposing 20-yard line.
  • Looking at the return game, the Monarchs are back at the top of the MAC with 25.9 yards per return and one touchdown as a unit coming on an 82-yard score from Kival Clarke against Eastern on September 27th.
  • King's has leaned on a physical, high-energy defense anchored by two linebackers among the MAC's tackling leaders. Sophomore James Rush leads the Monarchs with 55 total tackles, ranking sixth in the MAC with 6.9 tackles per game. Zach Hulsizer ranks ninth in conference with 53 total tackles and 6.6 per contest.
  • The D-Line trio of Michael Richino, Xander Murray and Khalil Holley has been on a tear as of late, combining for seven and a half sacks, eight tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hurries. Murray denied multiple passing opportunities with three batted-down passes against Albright.
  • A steady presence in the secondary, Bryan Kelly leads both King's and the MAC with 12 pass breakups on the year. As a team, King's broke up a season-high 11 passes last weekend in their 24-14 win against Albright.
Up Next: The Monarchs conclude the 2025 regular season next Saturday with a trip up to Dallas for a MAC matchup with Misericordia. Kickoff against the Cougars is slated for noon.
