Marywood Tops Men’s Basketball in Double OT Showdown

WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 6, 2025)—The King's men's basketball team fell in a hard-fought double-overtime home contest against Marywood University on Saturday, 101-98. The Monarchs drop to 3-6 this season while the Pacers improve to 5-1 overall.

King's came out strong, trading early baskets with Marywood and keeping the game close through the first eight minutes. Ben Rodner-Tims led the Monarchs in the opening minutes, scoring eight of his 27 points while hitting a three-pointer and grabbing key rebounds to keep the score tight.

The teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with Marywood maintaining a slim edge for most of the period. Jake Karnish and Ray Gooley contributed to King's efforts with timely rebounds and assists to keep the game close, but the Monarchs trailed 37-34 at halftime.

King's began the second half with a purpose, going on a 16-5 run and pulling out to an eight-point, 50-42 lead highlighted by two threes from Devin Kimmick and eight more points from Rodner-Tims. The Monarchs held onto that eight-point lead through the 12-minute mark before the Pacers quickly cut the deficit to three at 57-54 via forced turnovers leading to baskets.

A Kimmick three at the 5:05 mark put the Monarchs back up eight before Marywood sparked a 14-8 run over the last 4:50 to force overtime as the score was deadlocked at 83 apiece to end regulation.

The first overtime saw a back-and-forth battle as both teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes. Marywood held a slight edge late in the period on a jumper by Noah Perry, but King's responded quickly. Gooley knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 87, and after a layup gave Marywood a brief lead, Ben Malley went to the line and sank two clutch free throws to knot the score at 89 and force a second overtime.

In the second overtime, Karnish gave the Monarchs a 93-91 lead with two free throws in the opening minute of overtime. Rodner-Tims added a layup to extend the advantage to 95-91, but Marywood continued to answer, as the Pacers responded with a 4-0 run of their own. Marywood hit a pair of free throws to briefly give the Pacers a 97-95 lead, but Malley's layup tied it at 97.

With 53 seconds left, Rodner-Tims made one of two free throws to give King's a 98-97 advantage, but Marywood quickly responded with a jumper to put Marywood ahead 99-98. After a turnover and a pair of free throws, King's couldn't find the three-point equalizer in their final possession as the Pacers held on for a 101-98 victory.

While both teams rebounded well, the Pacers held an 11-1 advantage in second chance points, which proved to be a big difference maker in the thrilling matchup.

Rodner-Tims led the Monarchs with 27 points, three steals, and four assists, while Karnish posted a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Malley and Christian added 17 and 15 points, respectively, and Hall finished with 11 points. Kimmick and Gooley each contributed nine points to round out King's scoring.

King's men's basketball returns to action on Saturday, December 13 as the Monarchs travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on Moravian University at 3:00 p.m.
