CHICOPEE, MA (February 14, 2025) -- The King's College men's volleyball team swept the Blazers of Elms College 3-0 on Friday night in the Picknelly Arena.

The Monarchs (7-4) trailed early to begin the first set as the Blazers (3-7) earned a 7-3 lead. King's adjusted and created an 8-3 burst that included tallies by
Logan Dougherty and
Gavin Gilhool to regain momentum at 11-10. From then on, the Monarchs controlled the matchup. Every point Elms would score, King's answered right back with three of their own. The Blazers scored two straight before falling to the Monarchs 25-18.

It was a back-and-forth affair to start the second set. The match was tied 6-6 when King's produced a 6-0 jolt that comprised of back-to-back aces by Gilhool. Elms responded with a 5-1 run to get within reach of the visitors. The Monarchs remained calm and gathered another 7-1 jolt that comprised of Dougherty,
Greg Bousquet,
David Hernandez,
Logan Aikens, and
Ben Maskiell. King's went on to defeat the Blazers 25-18 after a kill by
Rich Alvarez.

In the third and final set, the Monarchs maintained their momentum with a 17-7 start. Elms was not going down without a fight and came back with 9-3 burst to get within four. King's remained composed and made one last 5-2 run to remain victorious 25-18.

Dougherty led the Monarchs with 10 kills with a hitting percentage of .360. Bouquet had his own seven kills, seven digs, and a hitting percentage of .429. Maskiell dished out 26 of the team's 29 assists and aces. Gilhool collected four aces, three blocks, and four kills.

The Blazers' Nicholas Uschmann produced 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Hunter Ladouceur had 24 helpers. Samuel Moreno and Joshua Fernandez Garcia collected eight digs each.

King's will have a short turnaround as they take on Dean and New Jersey City tomorrow, February 15
th at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Franklin, MA. The squad will have their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) road matchup against Misericordia at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20
th.
