Monarchs Split Saturday Tri-Match in Massachusetts

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, MA (February 15, 2025) -- The King's College men's volleyball split their Saturday tri-match with Dean College (2-8) and New Jersey City (5-5). The Monarchs (8-5) defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 and fell to the Gothic Knights 3-0.
 
vs Dean College, W 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-15):
King's took an early 14-6 lead thanks to kills by Logan Dougherty and Greg Bousquet in the first set. From then on, the matchup went back-and-forth but the Monarchs controlled the set the rest of the way. King's won 25-16.
 
The Monarchs maintained their momentum through the second set as Dean pestered the visitors every step of the way. King's were up 9-8 when the squad broke free with a 6-2 run that included tallies by Dougherty, Logan Aikens, and Ben Maskiell. The Bulldogs answered back with three straight points. Though the Monarchs made a lasting 9-3 push that comprised of Alex Martellacci, Gavin Gilhool, Bousquet, Dougherty, and Maskiell to win 25-16.
 
The third and final set was much like the second. Dean looked to take over, but King's had every answer. It was 10-9 when the Monarchs produced a 15-6 burst with a final kill by Luke Hammond to remain victorious 25-15.
 
King's finished with 40 kills, 38 assists, eight blocks, 29 digs, and a hitting percentage of .529. Dougherty collected a season-high 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .696. Bousquet had nine kills, eight digs, and four blocks. Maskiell passed out 27 helpers and a team-best 10 digs.
 
The Bulldogs' Arthur Felicio and Noah Allan produced six kills each. Hunter Armitage had 22 of the team's 23 assists. Mason Rua earned eight digs.
 
vs New Jersey City, L 0-3 (15-25, 22-25, 23-25):
 
King's dropped the first set 15-25 with seven kills on the stat sheet.
 
The Monarchs battled hard in the second set with 10 kills, but fell 22-25.
 
In the third and final set it was neck-and-neck as King's pestered the Gothic Knights. The Monarchs accumulated 12 kills but ultimately lost 23-25.
 
King's will begin Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play at Misericordia on Thursday, February 20th at 7 p.m. The squad will return to McGrane Gymnasium on Saturday, February 20th against Wilson and Bryn Athyn at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
