Knight's Hot Third Quarter Downs Women's Hoops at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (February 8, 2025) -- Trailing by just three at halftime, the host Arcadia University got hot from the field in the third as the King's College women's basketball team could not hold on in a 71-50 setback on Saturday afternoon. With the loss in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up, the Monarchs drop to 7-14 overall and 3-7 in the standings, while the Knights improve to 14-7 with an 8-2 conference mark.

It was an exciting first quarter where neither team led by more than four as a pair of free throws from Layla Orth in the final 18 seconds tied the game again, 13-13, after one quarter of play. The second quarter wrote a similar story with seven lead changes and a tie as Lauren Casey knotted the core at 29 a piece with 1:04 left before a three from Delaney Bell put Arcadia (14-7, 8-2 MAC Freedom) on top, 32-29, at the break.

The game went back-and-forth early, but a three from the Knights at the 6:13 mark of the third sparked a 17-6 run to end the quarter as Arcadia stormed out to a 58-42 edge heading into the final quarter of action. The pace of play slowed in the third, and King's (7-14, 3-7 MAC Freedom) could not stage a late road comeback effort as they dropped the 71-50 final in Glenside on Saturday afternoon.

Casey led the scoring with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and a block, and Gianna Dickson finished with 10 points. Cadie Lewis collected nine boards with six assists, five points, and three steals, while Kathy Shepherd finished with six points, three caroms, and two steals. All Lindsay added six rebounds and two assists, and both Claire Aufiero and Irelynd Long grabbed four boards.

Delaney Bell paced Arcadia with 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal.

King's finished with 10 assists on their 18 baskets and won the rebounding margin, 48-40, that helped a 16-9 advantage in second-chance points. The defense forced 14 Knights turnovers, and the bench out scored Arcadia's, 15-7.

The Monarchs will be back in McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday night as they host Delaware Valley in MAC Freedom play at 7:00 p.m.
