SELINSGROVE, PA (March 1, 2025) -- The host Susquehanna University opened the game on a 5-0 run, and the King's College men's lacrosse team did not recover in an 18-4 setback on Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove. The Monarchs drop to 0-2 overall, while the River Hawks remain undefeated at 4-0.
Susquehanna (4-0) went on a tear to start the game, scoring three first-quarter goals and a pair in the first 5:03 of the second to hold a 5-0 lead over the Monarchs. Out of a good clear by King's (0-2),
John Wall found Brendan Lynch to put the Monarchs on the board with 8:03 to go in the half.
Matt Dellapi won the ensuing face off to give King's possession, and after two good looks at the goal by
Ryan Lynch,
Ben Spencer fed Wall for the Monarchs second goal of the game as they trailed, 5-2, with 6:28 left in the second.
It was all River Hawks down the stretch in the half as they tallied four more scores as King's trailed, 9-2, at the half. The host Susquehanna kept the momentum rolling in the second half, scoring the first seven goals to jump ahead, 16-2, with 6:21 remaining in the game.
King's matched the River Hawks' efforts down the stretch. Dellapi won another face off with 6:21 to go, and after a wide attempt from Spencer, Brendan Lynch assisted
Jake Cierech for the score with 5:05 to play. Susquehanna scored the next two, but out of a ground ball from
Miles Wilson and successful Monarchs clear,
Ryan Lynch fed Wall for his second goal of the game with 21 ticks left. Dellapi claimed the final face off in the game, but King's fell, 18-4, as time expired in Selinsgrove.
Wall finished with three points on two goals and an assist off two shots, both on goal, while Spencer had a team-high six shots with an assist and two ground balls. Brendan Lynch added two points on a goal and an assist, while
Ryan Lynch and Cierech each picked up a point each. Dellapi won 15 face offs and had a team-high 10 ground balls, while
Josh Hilpp caused two turnovers. In goal,
Ryan Rickards made 12 saves in 54:55 of action, and Wilson entered in relief to collect one save.
Susquehanna was led by Chris Ciccarello with seven points on four goals and three assists off five shots, including four on goal, while Dylan New picked up three ground balls. Marshall Woodrosky caused two turnovers, and Alexander Messina won six face offs. Augie Granatelli earned the win through the first three quarters, tallying six saves while allowing two goals.
As a team, the Monarchs had 13 saves in goal and forced 18 Susquehanna turnovers. King's also had the edge in face offs, 15-11, cleared 17 of their 21 attempts, and picked up 34 ground balls in the setback.
The Monarchs are set to host Marywood University in their home opener at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
