WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 5, 2025) -- The King's College men's lacrosse team had a Wednesday night thriller as they went into overtime with the Marywood Pacers. The Monarchs battled through every minute but fell 10-9 to the Pacers in McCarthy Stadium.

The Monarchs (0-3) found the back of the net first with a goal by
John Wall at 14:23. Marywood (3-1) answered back quickly, but
Jake Cierech retaliated with another Monarch goal at 11:47. A save by
Ryan Rickards at 9:12 helped King's enter enemy territory. Cierech went on to add a tally at 8:10 to have a two point lead on the Pacers. The first quarter was scoreless the next three minutes, but Marywood took advantage of a man-up opportunity and found the back of the net at 4:30. The Monarchs stayed composed with two straight goals by Cierech and Wall to end the first quarter with a 5-2 lead.

Matt Dellapi maintained the momentum with a face off win to start the second quarter. The Pacers tacked on a point at 13:24 as they looked to build an edge. The King's defense was locked in with a shot clock violation and caused turnovers to help the offense take up residence across enemy lines for four minutes. At 7:13,
Zach Webb collected his first goal of the season after a perfect clear attempt. The Pacers pestered their hosts with two straight goals as time was dwindling down. The remainder of the quarter was scoreless, and the Monarchs had a 6-5 lead heading into half time.

After intermission, the game went back-and-forth for the first four minutes. Webb netted the first goal of the third quarter to push King's to a two-point cushion. In the last six minutes of the quarter, Marywood got fired up and scored three straight points to take the lead. The Monarchs trailed 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Â

Rickards made a save at 10:38 of the fourth quarter to help the offense make a successful clear. Wall in turn found
Brenden Lynch for a Monarch goal. The two adversaries began trading shots the next seven minutes of play. At 2:16, Dellapi recorded his first goal of the year in a man-up opportunity to put King's ahead, 9-8. It was the final 20 seconds of the fourth quarter when Marywood netted a goal to send the game into overtime.

Dellapi secured a face off win to start overtime and gain an offensive possession for King's. The Monarchs produced several shots, but the Pacers' goalie made a save and had a successful clear. After a timeout by Marywood, the visitors netted a goal at 2:37 to take a 10-9 overtime win.

King's ended with 40 shots, 43 ground balls, and 17-23 in clears. Cierech collected four points on three goals and an assist. Webb and Wall scored two goals each. Dellapi picked up eight ground balls.
Josh Hilpp had three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Rickards produced 15 saves in goal.

Marywood finished with 41 shots, 38 ground balls, and 20-20 in clears. John Scibello paced the offense with six points on two goals and four assists. Shaun Howey and Ricky Strobel had two goals each. Luke Ament collected nine ground balls.
