Schneider Leads Women's Lacrosse to Dominant 22-10 Win over Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (March 10, 2025) -- Maria Schneider scored seven of the team's 22 goals on Monday afternoon as the King's College women's lacrosse team dominated Gwynedd Mercy University, 22-10, on the road. With the win, the Monarchs secure their first victory of the 2025 season and improve to 1-3, while the Griffins drop to 1-5 overall.

The team's 22 goals is the most in a single game since topping Delaware Valley 21-2 on April 20, 2022, while Schneider's seven tallies is the most by a single player in a game since Gabriella Morrocu achieved the feat against Lycoming on March 16, 2016.

Sarah Schultz put King's (1-3) on the board first after getting a feed from Chloe Burke just 35 seconds into the game. The host Gwynedd Mercy (1-5) responded with back-to-back goals, including a man-up opportunity, to take a 2-1 lead with 12:22 remaining in the first. The Monarchs responded with their own pair of scores, including one from Alli Lindsay and Sarah Schultz's second of the game on an assist from Emilee Schultz as King's regained the edge, 3-2, with 10:22 left. The team's traded scores down the stretch as Schneider and Burke scored for the Monarchs to hold on to a 5-4 advantage after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, the Monarchs went on a tear, scoring all six goals in the frame by six different players to hold a dominant 11-4 lead at the break.

Lindsay tacked on a goal 1:24 into the third to push their advantage to 12-4 before the Griffins got back in the scoring column with two unanswered goals. Sarah Schultz connected with Schneider for the junior's man-up goal with 8:34 to play, but again the host Gwynedd Mercy had an answer. A score from Lindsay sparked a 4-1 run down the stretch as King's entered the final quarter with a 17-8 edge.

The Monarchs did not take their foot off the gas pedal in the fourth, scoring the first five goals in the quarter as the lead swelled to 22-8 with 4:40 remaining. Despite two late tallies by the Griffins, it was too little too late as King's secured the dominant 22-10 victory on the road in the non-conference match up on Monday afternoon.

Schneider finished with seven goals for seven points on nine shots with nine draw controls and three ground balls, while Sarah Schultz finished with six points on four goals and two assists. Burke totaled five points on four goals and a helper off nine shots with a team-best four ground balls and two draw controls, and Lindsay posted four goals on seven shots, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Sydney Stratton scored a pair, Emilee Schultz had a goal and an assist, and Emma Clark added an assist to round out the leading scorers for the Monarchs.

Defensively, Harley Sabol caused two turnovers with two ground balls, and Alyssa Reeber picked up her first win in goal with four saves.

Rebecca Gordon led Gwynedd Mercy with six points on six goals off eight shots, while Victoria Sloan collected three ground balls and the loss in the cage with 14 goals allowed and three saves. Ava DeMarco paced the defense with three caused turnovers, and Cheyenne Avellino won six draw controls. Additionally, Nikki Willimas made six saves in 25:13 of action in net.

King's dominated the team statistics in the win, out shooting Gwynedd Mercy 40-20 in the contest, causing 21 Griffins turnovers while committing just 12, and picking up 18 ground balls to the Griffins' 12. The Monarchs successfully cleared 12 of their 15 attempts while limiting their hosts to just 7-for-15.

King's will be off for the remainder of the week before returning to action on Wednesday, March 19 as they take on Mount Saint Vincent. Action is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Riverdale, N.Y.
