Baseball Splits Home Opener with FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 15, 2025) – The King's College baseball team split Saturday's home-opening Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom double header with the Devils of FDU-Florham at Lipo Field. The Monarchs won game one 5-3 and lost game two 9-3, moving to 3-8 overall as the Devils move to 6-8.

Game 1 – W, 5-3

Owen Kosar got the Monarchs going in the second inning after hitting a single to center field and sending Jacob Sutton home to notch the first run of the game. In the third inning, Jaiden Wanamaker grounded out to put Zach Day on second base and score Owen Ness. Jason Cunha followed up with a single up the middle to get Day home and give the King's a 3-0 lead.

FDU-Florham scored a run in the top of the fourth, but the Monarchs answered back as Wanamaker singled up the middle and Ness and Kosar both reached home to make it 5-1. The Devils put up two more runs in the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Monarchs secured their first conference win of the season with a final score of 5-3.

Day had three hits and Wanamaker and Cunha each had two. Senior pitcher Josh Kilvitis (1-0) got the win on the mound, handing Chris Kaponis (2-2) the loss.

Game 2 – L, 9-6

The Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead through six, but the Monarchs found their offensive spark again in the bottom of the innings as Kevin Kullman hit a single down the right field line to advance Wanamaker to third and score Day. Jacob Sutton then doubled down the right field line to get Kullman to third and score Wanamaker. Kosar hit a single up the middle to notch two get Sutton and Kullman home and make it a 5-4 ballgame in favor of the Devils.

The Monarchs took a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning after Cunha hit a double to center field to bring Day and Ness home, but the Devils went on to score two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to snag the 9-6 win.

Kullman had three hits and Day had two runs as Alex Orr (0-1) took the pitching loss, and Jack Kopera (1-0) posted his first win of the season on the mound.

The Monarchs will travel to Madison, NJ tomorrow to take on the Devils at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark at 11 a.m.
