WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 19, 2025) – The King's College baseball team dominated the Nittany Lions of Penn State Wilkes-Barre 18-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Lipo Field. With the full-team effort, the Monarchs improve to 4-9 on the season.
King's jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after scoring three runs each in the first and second innings. The Monarchs ran away with it in the third as
Ryan Northorn hit a single through the left side to put
Zach Jenkins on second and score
Owen Kosar.
Owen Ness was walked, pushing
Troy Neff to second, Northorn to third and Jenkins home.
Zach Day hit a double to left center, advancing Ness to third and scoring Neff and Northorn.
Jaiden Wanamaker hit a double to left center field to get both Day and Ness home.
Joshua Quinones then reached base on a fielder's choice, putting
Mikey Timinski on second and scoring Wanamaker. The Monarchs led 13-0 after three innings.
Connor Reynolds got the start on the mound for the Monarchs, throwing three hitless innings. The Nittany Lions scored their first and only run in the fourth inning.
The Monarchs got going again in the sixth as Wanamaker hit a single through the left side to advance Day to second, Ness to third and score pinch runner
Ian Campbell. Hitters were walked with the bases loaded in two consecutive at bats to score two more runs. Quinones hit a sacrifice fly to left field to put
Blaze Graham on second,
Michael Marmolejos on third and scoring
Hayden Fisher.
Brayden Schoonmaker grounded out to third base, advancing Graham to third and scoring Marmolejos for the last run of the game, making it 18-1.
Wanamaker had five hits and five RBIs on the day as Day had four runs, two hits and three RBIs, Ness had three runs, two hits and two RBI's, Neff had three runs and Northorn had two hits, two runs and one RBI.
Connor Reynolds (1-0) had a stellar day on the mound with nine strikeouts and 89 pitches thrown through six innings to notch the pitching win, handing Wilkes-Barre's Joel Brennan the loss.
The Monarchs are back at Lipo Field tomorrow, March 20 for a 4 p.m. game against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Hazleton.
